The wholesale Openreach cost of 330Mbps FTTP drops from £38/month to £24.28/month (ex VAT) from the 1st September, so I would expect the retail providers to be able to pass this on, or at least have the flexibility of doing better deals.

Phoned up and they offered 150mb for £39.

Went with that and got an install date of the 2nd September.
Nice.

My install date is the 9th, I went with a later install date because Openreach are dropping their wholesale pricing by 36% on September 1st, so there's a good chance prices will drop just after, and Openreach is supposed to be announcing 500Mb and 1Gb tiers around the same time.

I went with a earlier date as I'm away on the 5th to the 10th and Virgin should cut my service on the 6th, I wll have a choice of two for a few days :p

Those new speeds do look good, hoprfully when time to renew there might some good pricing around :)

Once installed I will post some info in the BT thread.

Fortunately they have a 14 day grace period after your line goes live to cancel or make changes. I got the guy on the phone to confirm it for me.

Got my letter regarding the price increase, called up to be only offered £3.50 discount for 6 months, currently paying £38.50 for 200Mb, told them it's not good enough and am fed up with the price increase every year so to go ahead with the cancellation request.

I ordered Virgin broadband 350 plus phone a couple of weeks ago for £43 a month and they've now got it down to £37 a month on the website. A quick phone call to ask if they will match it and they have, just saved me another £72 a year.

I just rang and the best deal i got offered was £51 for 200mb, basic tv and phone. This was a deal from the specialist team who were English. I just said i'll cancel because what other people are paying is much less. just having the 200mb alone he said would be £47. Should i expect someone to ring me back with a better offer as i've never taken it this far before? He did say offers change daily, one day they could be £35 and the next £50.

As far as I can tell from using them so long thats something they tell you so they dont need to admit the truth.
New customers its whats advertised the time.
for old customers you get the same odds as the casino , so get your dice out and see.

To be fair, it's the same with sky, BT etc. You have to play the annual dance and either take the deals offered or leave.

Only you can decide if the prices are worth it. I'll have no problem leaving sky for virgin (and vise versa) annually to get the best deals.

Ive never used BT I think they are over priced most of the time sky has always been good to me, dont need the TV anymore and could not get fibre at the time of renew.

I take a different view and don't chase down the last £5 to £10 pound a month on VM/BT etc as my time is money and if everyone chases done the cost the service will suffer more. When I phoned up about my current VM package (200Mbps, 2 x v6 Tivos & phone) I was offered a couple of very significant discounts and they actually seemed surprised I was trying to upgrade my package.

Without haggling I ended up with Ultimate Oomph for less than the new customer advertised price. I've never gone to the level of cancelling a service if I didn't intend to go through with it but don't seem to have suffered much as a result, so I think there is a balance to consider if you value your time. I know I sound like a WBAC advert!

Where on earth did you get that idea from? Offers are set at the start of the month, they're based on planned new acquisitions and the credit spend allocated for them. BT operate slightly differently and will adjust offers based on acquisitions mid month via some channels eg Quidco/TCB. Retentions is a different game entirely, but in essence they have criteria and a budget, if you're a pita you may or may not get a decent deal, but often retentions deals will be better than new customer deals. BT may be expensive at face value, but when using TCB/Quidco and combining it with available promotional offers, they can often be cheaper as the reward cards + cash back + freebies can shift the balance significantly.

I was taking about the offers they give over the phone not offers advertised
