I just built my son his own gaming PC. U til now he was using my 3930K with my Vega 64 and 32gb RAM. His new PC 'only' has a Ryzen 2600 with my Vega 64 (I will get something else) and 16gb RAM. It's faster in Fortnite by quite a margin. If that's how good the last gen Ryzen is then a new 3600 or 3700X is going to be a fantastic upgrade. What a great budget setup a 2600 and B450 motherboard is!

4770k here, OC'd to 4.4, feeling its age with only SATA SSD and DDR3
Still faffing about over upgrade, tempted by a 3900x or 9700, but got myself a new 8750H based Razer laptop with gtx2070 so i'm thinking about ditching the desktop completely...

I managed to get all the parts in yesterday so got it up and built last night. Unfortunately I haven't had much chance to test it out yet.

Playing AC: Odyssey and Anthem is a far superior experience to my 4.3Ghz 4670K setup. The stuttering has gone and the frame rate is far smoother.
Didn't think I would see a difference at 4K resolution but it is very noticeable.

EDIT: That is now with a 3600X + X570 Gaming Plus + 16GB 3200Mhz ram. 1080ti in both systems.

My daily driver is my laptop (6700HQ and 1060 6GB) which handles 1080p fine, and will do me for Borderlands 3.

Come Cyberpunk next year, I will be looking towards my UnRaid server ([email protected] and 16GB ram) and prbably plop a cheap 2060 in it (recently sold the 980 that was in it as I wasn't using it) and see how it fairs.

Worst case, sell the cpu/mobo/ram/heatsink, and get cheap Zen or something.

I still use my 3770k as my home media/plex nas pc for the home and the family. It’s running at stock clocks

I brought a 3900x and x570 on launch day from overclockers had a few problems since then though my msi x570 ace had bios issues I then got a ASRock tachai witch had a no cpu error then I went for asus c8h well I’m on my second one of those lol .

I also upgraded to a 2080ti. But every time I’ve had to send the motherboards back I’ve resort d back to my 3770k and the difference is a lot bigger the. I thought at the start. The 3900x is just so much faster then the 3770k and my 2080ti is really limited when paired with it

I’m really impressed with the new and cpu though and highly recommend it although x570 on the other hand is another story

Same here, same cpu setup and laptop (except 2060). I'm toying with the idea of ditching the desktop completely come next revision because laptops these days are good enough.
In all honesty I don't find sata ssd's a problem, and aside a slightly faster multitasking experience there's really not much in it.

Whilst I'd love a new system that would last another 8 years or more and I was wanting to upgrade to a 3800x for double the cores and 4x the threads of my current CPU, maybe I'll do a budget upgrade to a 3600x, a B450 motherboard and 16Gb 3200Mhz RAM?

If you are still fine with the i5 2500 performance and you are primarily upgrading for games, maybe check the release dates of some of those games you plan to play so you could potentially time your upgrade better.
Games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Dying Light 2 releases in Spring 2020, so upgrading around that time would at least save you money on current motherboards and CPU's.

The Ryzen 4000 series on 7nm+ is set to come out in 2020 too but probably in autumn at best.
