Coming from a 2560x1440 monitor I am looking to get a new ultrawide monitor but as a high refresh gamer who likes high frame rates I am a little worried about getting the upcoming LG 3840x1600 and can find very little performance comparisons other than one oldish youtube video.

Can anyone with a a 3840x1600 vouch for what kind of performance hit to expect coming from a 2560x1440?

I have a 2080ti and a 3900x.

If you look at reviews and the FPS at 4K/UHD then you can add ~25% to that and you have the performance at 3840x1600.

So if you do 60FPS at 4K you would look at ~75FPS on that ultrawide.

Thanks guys, I'm starting to think 3440x1440 might be a safer jump for me as my heart drops when fps goes below 70 minimum in any game.

How long do you hold on to your monitors? Unless you cycle them every 3-4 years you’ll probably be able to grow into it within a generation (if you buy high end cards) or two... I would expect the next high end Nvidia 7nm card to be able to drive 3840x1600 nicely.

3840x1600 will be fine. I have a 2080.

I'm running 5120 x 1440 and its a bit stressy but i manage to hit 60fps in most games.
I downscale to 3840 x 1080 if i want silky smoothness and that is silky AF.

I think 3840x1600 will be somewhere in the middle of those two, way more towards the latter so it should be easy to power. You also have an amazing GPU compared to mine.

Your 2080ti has been chilling out at 1440p/144hz. Time to put it to work!

I was considering downscalling resolution when needed especially with nvidias new sharpening filters that should hopefully reduce some blurring. I really like the idea of a larger than 21-9 aspect ratio and 1ms response times although the pg35vq and other 200hz moniotrs are at 3440x1440 which will make it easier to drive native and with proper hdr aghhh! such a difficult decision...

Most games now come with internal resolution scaling options too, just drop it as far as needed and use the sharpening to improve the image. Sorted :)

I had the LG 38UC99 and that was epic, really regret selling that now!! Esp with nVidia supporting the Freesync on it!!!

The LG is looking more tempting than ever now :D

Is the internal resolution scaling handled better in game than flat out in game resolution changes? or is it literally the same ?
