Hi all, posted previously about upgrading my PC but now I am handing my current set up to my son and I will be building from scratch.

It's main task will be photo editing, I am a wedding photographer so deal with high volumes of RAW images. Lightroom/Photoshop performance is a must, building previews and rendering JPEGs at speed is vital for my workflow.

There is the potential for it to be used for wedding films as well so want something that is going to be able to handle editing films in Premier Pro easily.

Budget I would like to keep close to £1k but max £1.5k if needed.

I am not looking for a fancy LED set up, but I really would like it to be silent as possible.

I don't need storage drives but will need a fast SSD set up for managing workflow.

I currently have a Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1050 WF2 GDDR5 OC 2GB that I could use in the new computer but only if it is actually going to be a benefit?

I dont need any peripherals, I wont need Windows. I don't fancy fiddling with any OC.

I have a monitor: Dell UltraSharp UP2716D

Thanks in advance for all your efforts again

Photoshop;

CPU

RAM

GPU
https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/a...-Roundup-NVIDIA-SUPER-vs-AMD-RX-5700-XT-1552/

reusing current GPU will help but as you can see, spending hundreds on Photowork wouldnt get your returns . Video is a different matter

Lightroom;
CPU- Ryzen 3800x should match older Thread Ripper 12 core

GPU

Any current GPU will help with the above over CPU integrated GPU ^^^

Already having reusable graphics card would help to give more budget for CPU.
And needing to build completely new PC has some "fixed cost" regardless of what components you're putting inside.

Anyway for that use you basically want both good single core performance and high core/thread count, because there are workloads needing both.
Zen2 Ryzens are clear winners in that per price.
Desktop platform Ryzens even have some advantage over high end platform Threadripper, which is still in weaker single core Zen"1"/+ architecture.

For CPU cooler Scythe Mugen 5 is bang per buck king with step behind the best performance:

Do you need optical drive?
If you intend to start editing videos you might also need to burn some optical discs at some point and fashion has removed 5.25" bays from most cases.
Fractal Design Define R6 is one of the rare cases with mass damped side panels and also 5.25" bay.

The 16 corse 3950x and new thread ippers are due imminently. Thats where i would look if the 12 core 3900x aint man enough.

Might have to stretch that budget for a TR setup but its a very powerful box.

Thanks for the info guys, I have read through it all and come up with the following. I wont need an optical drive and I am thinking the GPU can hold off for now, the video thing is a potential, I am not going to invest in an idea just yet. Some parts I have picked up from looking at others builds so not sure if I have chosen wisely or correctly. Any advice or recommendations appreciated.

Performance wise difference between 3700X and 3800X isn't really much to talk about for the price difference.
Though maybe latest AGESA could make more difference to boost clocks with that higher TDP limit.

As you aren't into bling bling, could save £10 in windowless case:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/phan...ower-case-noise-dampened-black-ca-047-pt.html

Because that Coolerhamster PSU is in "PC-tech time terms" medieval cheap design with second tier components.

While coming with 5 year waranty this Bitfenix would be at least modern PSU with good components.
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/bitfenix-formula-series-550w-80-plus-gold-power-supply-ca-22y-bx.html
Max consumption with GTX 1050 level graphics card and stock 3700X would in class of 200W and with 3800X ~40W more.
Without high end graphics card 550W PSU is perfectly good.

Though this discounted 10 year warranty Corsair would be bang per buck choise.

Assuming it's available in reasonable time instead of Christmas of year x/not just some remnant in product list from EOL model whose stocks were cleared.
From PSUs in stock Seasonic Focus golds are the best priced 10 year warranty models.

In SSDs OcUK has unfortunately weak choise with that out of stock Corsair MP510 being only sensible NVMe drive.
Samsung simply Samsung overprices their drives per GB for same TLC NAND and even standard level endurance:
1TB Samsungs have 600TBW endurance vs. 1700TBW for that Corsair.
That TBW rating is alternate warranty limit and after 600TB Samsung could simply show you mid finger and tell that you used drive too much invalidating warranty.
