Faulty batches of AMD 3000 chips some not had the heatspreader installed correctly so some are getting very hot temps.

Do you know if this was just the first batches?

I've been putting off buying as I want a later batch as possible. Plus waiting on these motehrboards to drop 10-20quid

oh I just quoting a message someone else mentioned on that link I posted.

I have the same exact concern to be fair, we do know new tech has issues in general and it takes a while to get things ironed out properly and it does not
help AMD had that reputation with hot cpu's in general, but you can see from both threads (this one and the one I linked) if you get a decent cooler and a good chip you should be ok with some luck !

Has anyone lapped a Ryzen 3000 IHS yet?

Yes and believe me it was nowhere near flat.
I have before and after photos somewhere.

Roughed out and decided to trial fit.

I read somewhere that in both gen 1 and 2 the later batches performed cooler and boosted better. Graphs and all. Can't remember where it was.

No doubt quality control improves down the road, but as the ole saying goes there will always be something faster and cheaper down the road or around here 5 minutes after ! I was going to send you a message but your pm has never been set up.

That is why is better to buy good AM4 waterblocks like the Bitspower one. No such issues as they are designed perfectly for the surface. :D

Ah thought PM was disabled on here, on now, I'm basically buying on the first sale just hope the sale stock isn't ancient batches.

Yeah its disabled, always handy to enable PMs :)

I didn't realize its only been 2 months since AMD released these chips, id guess AMD are very aware of any production issues well before the public finds out but who knows when exactly good batches or good quality 3000 chips arrive.

Weird, I checked my 3700x(with a ruler) and it seemed pretty flat to me. Maybe it's noticeable only when the thermal compound has been hot and under pressure, don't know.
Can't test it myself because I don't even have a motherboard yet.
Why lap the cpu though ? Wouldn't lapping the cpu cooler base been more beneficial ? And then tightening the screws to add more pressure.

Ideally you would lap both and then use as little compound as possible.

My cpu was noticeably not flat when checked with a straight edge.
And yes i lapped the waterblock as well.
Damn hard to separate them now have to twist several times before they separate.

Was just thinking of doing it myself, what grade did you use for the final rub :)

1200 I could have gone for more but I just wanted a flat surface not a mirror finish.
Although to be honest by the time I got it flat that 1200 paper was effectively a higher grade as it was well worn :)

Hey man. I am getting a build with the same cooler and motherboard and just wondering if you could send me a pick of a burst eye view of the cooler on the motherboard. Does it block the chipset shroud screws?. Just wondering as I really don't want to have to take the cooler off just to swap out nvme's.
