2080 super versus 2080 ti how much %

I am asking for advice normally i am set in what i want but saving for a 2080ti is really grinding my finances. And if i wanted a 2080 super OC now i could at £719. The 2080ti i want with warranty would be £1110. I ran the numbers roughly you are looking at a 54% premium on the 2080ti but can anyone find a increase over 30% in games? I looked at Timespy DX12 and Tomb Raider and the difference was 50 vs 59 fps. A lot of games seem to be 20% but you have to pay 54% extra for 3gb of vram?


I am really thinking about just buying the 2080 Super will reselling a £1100 card also be a pain? How much would it be worth when the 3080ti arrives? Even then there may not be a 2x perf upgrade and normally i ONLY upgrade for 2x perf but if i wanted a 2x perf uplift from my last owned card which is a 1080 that requires a overclocked 2080ti with a 54% premium over a 2080 Super OC. A 1080 to 2080 Super upgrade is actually about 48% it seems in games. Do these numbers look right? Thanks in advance by the way.

As a 2080 Ti owner I would find it hard to justify buying one now purely on performance. But there is another criterion: longevity. How long do you expect to keep the card? You have the 2080S at £720 and the 2080 Ti at 1100 (I'm rounding). Let's say you expect to upgrade the 2080S in 24 months and it to have a nil resale value (because you're giving it to your nephew), so the card is costing you £30 a month. But you expect to keep the 2080 Ti 36 months (ditto) so the card costs you £30.56 a month. 56 pence a month difference. Obviously, I chose those figures deliberately; only you know which figures you would assign to which card.

To take a real world example, I ordered a Titan X in March 2015 for £880. I ordered my 2080 Ti in August 2018 and it arrived some weeks later. Call it 30 months' time difference. So the card cost me £29.33 a month over its lifespan - and my nephew was delighted to receive it. I got my 2080 Ti a year ago and if there's a new, better, GPU out it may go to university with my nephew next year, so it will have cost me £43.75 a month.

Thanks tamzzy that must be reference? Blowers or founders it is more than 16% slightly more 19% to 20% at 4k i should have said i looked only at 4k for me only 4k matters. But still 16% the graph should say £845.64 for the 2080ti not £1050. £729 + 44% = £1049.


It does not perform 44% better ever quite the gouge.

Funny you mention that i had a marker for 348 euro i spent it must be 3yrs now this christmas anyways that was £239 back then it is now like £309. When you look at how much the highend increased £599 1080 AMP to the high end now 2080 Super AMP i seen one at £709 its jumped around 19% to buy a highend Nvidia card now.


Anyone had a 19% pay leap in under three years?

It has given me some amazing gameplay though. Where some games my old 1080Ti would struggle. However now, I wouldn’t recommend one over a 2080S even though I own one just because of how closely they perform.

This is a good way of looking at it! Spreading it into a monthly cost over its lifespan makes it easier to work out how much gain you get going up a tier.

As a 2080Ti Owner, if doing it again I'd buy a 2080 non super. I also came from a 1080.

2080Ti, 2080s aren't worth buying now, as the 2070 Super is as fast as the 2080, and the 2080 Super, is not much faster than the non, only around 8%, if that.

I'd hate to buy a 2080/S now. For 4K you're gimped with only 8 GB of vram and it's only a year until 7nm Nvidia cards, which no doubt will push a lot more in terms of RT performance (which is where the industry is heading). I guess if you only want to have the card for 2 years, it's probably fine, but 3+, it's gonna be rough. Also because there's a good chance of prices going down next year to more normal levels. If not 4K I guess it's fine, but then if not at 4K does it really make sense over a 2070S? Hard to say. I have something similar to a 1080 (V64) and I choose to wait for next-gen.

I have a 2080ti and i would say it depends on your upgrade cycle gpu wise. I tend to keep gpus until o really have to upgrade (just check the rest of my rig lol)

2080ti is not worth the cost when its comes price to perf. If you got a 2080s i personally would keep it 18-24 months before jumping unless something revolutionary happens in the gpu market. Lets say in 18 months its cost you £40 a month and you sell it on for a minimum £200+ then i think its worth it to jump on a 2080s now. If you managed to sell it for £200 in 18 months your monthly cost has only really been just over £28 a month and thats reasonable tbh

Gaming should let you relax and have fun. Dont let it give you money worries and stress. I dont need to spend lots and lots of money to have fun. I game at 1080p which is very cheap and I love gaming to bits. I have such amazing fun. I bet not everybody can say that, not even at 4k.

I have RTX 2070 Super, RTX 2080, RTX 2080Ti and I must admit that I get most enjoyment out of my 2080Ti, they just have the edge in pure performance. When that is said, I wouldn't even consider RTX 2080 or RTX 2080 Super now because of the RTX 2070 Super. The difference is so marginal but the price is not. I actually feel the added cost of the 2080Ti is somewhat justified when comparing the raw performance with the RTX 2070 Super.

if you're gaming at 4k, the smart decision is something like a 2070S and just by the next gen cards.

Both the 2080 and the 2080ti will become irrelavant around the same time.

I'd go 2070S SLI. Much better performance and cheaper than the 2080ti. Obv lots of people don't like the idea of SLI and some games don't support it but for 4K it would be the most cost effective solution. I'm running 1080ti SLI and it is annoying Assassins creed Odyssey doesn't support it but even that's playable at 4K.

I would never recommend SLi/Crossfire in any capacity nowadays. Support is very limited and both AMD and Nvidia don't seem at all interested in mGPU now.

I agree with this gent, SLi & Crossfire are being phased out. AMD has completely removed CrossFire support from it's current 7nm product stack, the VII & Navi GPUs & Nvidia started doing the same with the Pascal range removing SLi support from the 6gb 1060 & down.

I am thinking a three year cycle might be a new thing if you want 2x the fps of your last card i have been looking around and it is about 25% perf over 2080s for 54% in nearly everything.

For me, My eyes anyways i will get sick with fps online games where i need to react and take it all in so most of the games i want to try going forward are probably Apex, PUBG, And Chivalry 2 or Mordhau i know none of these games offer MSAA it looks awful on 1080p 240hz screens so you end up needing 4k with the settings turned down to hit around 130fps i guess is the minimum. Single player i will happily wait actually i never played Witcher 2 yet so you see how i am unable to run a lot of games unless they offer MSAA 8x if they do i play or played them all to death so i am looking to get 4k 130+ fps gsync in those titles.
