Solid 550w PSU?

Hi all,

I’ve just done something incredibly stupid - I used an EVGA SATA power cable on a Corsair PSU...

Don’t ask why I did it - just completely in the zone of sorting stuff out and picked up the wrong one, and it fit absolutely fine.

Computer turned on and immediately shut off, hence my thinking it’s the PSU - I imagine something has shorted.

What decent 550w PSUs are on the market at the moment?

So I removed the PSU, tried it in another computer and it worked.

Put it back in the old computer and it also worked....

What?!

Check whether the SATA drive that the wrong cable was plugged into is still ok.

All tested, absolutely fine.

I removed the PSU, all cables, fit the proper one and it's all working absolutely fine.

Can't for the life of me figure out why it died and resurrected itself.

You got lucky with protections shutting down PSU before components had time to elect Pope

I think it's more the fault of the PSU manufacturers for designing completely different wiring of these modular cables whilst having physically the same connector.

A long time ago, I plugged molex and sata power into WD Raptor drive. PSU, HD and motherboard were all toast.
