The Sandybridge G640 home build that I knocked up for my parents about 6 years ago has given up the ghost.

Sadly they live on the other side of the world, so I can't recycle any of it - which is a pain the posterior as the Coolermaster mini-itx case was quite nice.

Would like to build them a new 'home office' system that has a little punch, so as to keep it going for a good few years.

Need the following:-

Processor (AMD I'd imagine to keep the budget in check)
Motherboard (mini-itx)
Memory
Hard drives (SSD and a storage drive - though with reasonable prices these days, maybe just a larger SSD would be fine)
PSU
Case (the old one was a Coolermaster Elite 120 - which was good, so something similar)

Budget would be about £400 - £500.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

This would be what I'd go with:
  • Ryzen 3 2200G
  • Gigabyte B450-I Aorus Pro WiFi
  • 2x8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 3200MT/s RAM
  • Sabrent Rocket NVMe SSD 512GB
  • In-Win BQ696 Chopin Mini-ITX Case (includes built-in 150W PSU)
Total =~£415

You could shave off a bit here and there by going for slower RAM, cheaper SSD or only 2x4GB RAM, etc if that's all that they'd need.

Conversely, could swap the APU for a better one if you think higher clocks or more threads are needed.

One thing to note with the In-Win Chopin case is that the stock Wraith Stealth cooler that comes in the box with the R3 2200G needs to have the fan shroud removed before it can fit in the case (this would also be the same if going for the R5 2400G or R3 3200G). That fan shroud doesn't do anything anyway, so not really losing anything by doing this.

Funnily enough in the 24 hours since my post, I had come up with something quite similar - Which I ordered earlier this afternoon.

Ryzen 3 2200G
Gigabyte B450-I Aorus Pro WiFi
2 x 4GB Team Group 3200
BeQuiet 400w PSU
Crucial MX500 250GB
WD Blue 1TB
OCUK value DVD-RW
Fractal Core 500 case

Cost was about £450.
