Joker (2019)

I'll be seeing this for the first time on Saturday and reading through this thread has really whet my appetite. I'm not a comic fan but in preparation I watched TDK a few nights ago and thought it was great but if Joker is darker, grittier and bleaker and focuses more on character without gadgets and vehicles then I think I'll like it more.

Finally watched it this morning after cancelling our last viewing, with how it was shot and the music it was really hard to get through certain parts and made me feel uneasy.

Saw this film and thought what a load of ...

Only watched it cos of news saying it was hardcore on the violence and then i find there wasnt any at all unless u call

the one time he actually killed someone in his home where the little guy was let go but other bloke wasnt so lucky. The only other time he killed was with a gun but meh that wasnt anything spectacular. The way the news went on it sounded like they went over the top but nope. Just a typical film.

The only bit i liked in the film was when he put the suit on and did the dance down the stairs and that was it.

Rest was so boring, and uninteresting.

Watched the Joker last week, found it to be extremely good. The character developement in my opinion was well done and the movie overall exceeded my expectations. Opinions on Joker 2? If there is, what do you think the storyline will be?

I'm conflicted, i'd love an expansion of this version of the Joker with JP in the role but I also just want to leave it "one and done"...it's spot on, works just right and doesn't need a sequel.

I think it's fair to say I got what I wanted!

Brilliant performance, brilliant film and thinkypoos to boot.

Best film I've seen for a long time.

Wow. Was captivated from the beginning. Pacing was spot on. The acting was excellent.

I came out immediately wondering who directed that. Surprised to see Todd Phillip's going from basically all comedies to this.

Few different takes on the ending: ign.

I'll need to see that again.

Saw one reviewer tagline state 'a movie completely unworthy of it's score' and I thought that was about right.

Wasn't that I didn't like it, more that after all the uproar and fan fair I expected a lot more. Just felt really flaccid to me. All the themes about mental health and power struggles within the class system felt so half baked and on the nose. I don't think it had anything interesting or even slightly incisive to say about any of it. I just kept thinking 'yeah... and what?'. Hell I even thought it was one of Phoenix's weaker performances.

Third act was pretty great though and as I said the score is ABSOUTELY the best thing about the whole movie imo.

Never understood that line of thinking. If 100 people see the film and 90 think it's great, 5 think it's average and 5 think it's terrible, it's not average or terrible because of those 10 people, it's a great film that they didn't like and that's perfectly fine. Holding your opinion as fact is a terrible way to review a film.

Close to two weeks since i've seen it and it's on my mind most days, not sure why but I end up thinking of this film a lot and it's left quite an impression on me for some reason. I might try and get back in to watch again over the next few days.

Saw this last night, when the movie finished I was pretty much quiet, trying to think about the whole movie, I will say it is an incredible film, the acting is brilliant, the best Joker IMO.

The last 10 minutes were absolutely incredible, the standout parts of those few mins were the classic scene of Bruce Wayne's parents in the alleyway, a throwback to the original Batman with the pearls etc and the part where Joker stands on the car and uses the blood to give him that extra 'smile' - just awesome!

"I don't think it's a film I'd rush to watch again"

It is a very good film though with brilliant acting from Joaquin.

Apparently this is predicted to make almost as much profit as Endgame did if not more. Given endgame took something like $2.8 billion at the worldwide box office how much do they spend on other things for a film like that?

Joker cost $55m to make and Endgame $356m.

If anyone has annoying neighbours then I can't think of many better ways to get their curtains twitching than spreading your arms out wide, throwing your head back and flamoyantly pirrhouetting around the front garden while singing "That's Life".

It's estimated they spent about $100-$150m on marketing/promo for Joker.
