The only real checks that can be done are on the seals for the rear doors (do they match the documented last seal at the location it left) or a physical open door check which is not possible on all traffic coming through the ports. EU laws also made it optional to even manifest what is being carried which makes spot checks even harder.

The only technology deployed are the cyclamen detectors which only checks for radiation and co2 Lance's for curtain sides. Other than that there is literally only a 1 in 10000 chance of a lorry or container being opened at a port.

In terms of the driver, it's possible 39 people did manage to break into the container and he wasn't aware. However there has been an increase in drivers being threatened with extreme violence (ie torture) by people smugglers in Bulgaria, Albania or Romania or indeed from the illegals themselves.

So where's the money coming from, who's paying the mafia/others involved to transport these people?

The people themselves, however then what also happens is there are facilitators in the UK who will receive the immigrants as slave labour or forced prostitution so will also pay the smugglers

Could the people not just by a plane ticket and stay illegally then, if they can afford to pay their smugglers?

Depends where they are from. You couldn't get on a plane from say Syria and just land in the UK and be granted a visitor Visa. This is also assuming they were from Syria. Migrants from sub Saharan Africa are constantly trying to gain access to the UK

Lots of assumptions being made here and in the House of Commons about the origin and nature of these bodies. Has something been published stating they are trafficked illegals? Diane Abbott emotionally seemed to assume they were and is already politicizing it.

I see what your saying. So what kind of slave labour do they do, I'm struggling to see how the numbers add up for slave labour though with minimum wage then accommodation costs. So maybe they did indeed sneak aboard hoping once they're in they can seek political asylum.

The fact these people attempt illegal entry by dinghy, lorry or from after being taxied from the Med by NGO's subsequent to them paying Libyan traffickers to ferry them offshore to start an overland European journey to the UK suggest that they have no legitimate reason for entry, or they'd use the funds to come legitimately to claim whatever they perceive to be their rights. It also suggests we need to consider just what is making the UK such a magnet for illegal migration people will cross half the globe to get here. Finally the EU have been totally lacking in getting a handle on trans EU illegal migration, instead they blackmail member countries to take in their "share" of them despite these countries not wishing to take the well known risks of undocumented migrants arriving unfettered. Quite how many of these people are arriving here daily, undiscovered, is anyone's guess.

Any kind of slavery you can imagine, sex, domestic servitude, nail bars, restaurant kitchen staff etc. Black market labour

I hope parliament shows some respect and doesn't turn this into a political argument over immigration.

Why? all of these deaths could be avoided if we made it clear that migration must take place legally, when you have a policy of saying that people who make it to the country won't be kicked out they will put their lives at risk to get here. It's the same situation with people risking their lives to cross the Mediterranean/English channel, it's political policy to blame for it.
