How can I tell it's the same card?

Ebay is full of scamers now, This is why I have an attic full of old computer parts slowly collecting dust

Very, I mean, I could have just removed all my cards from PayPal and refused to pay it, but that would have led to recovery action, credit record damage and loss of my goodstanding eBay account, this way is much preferable.

I doubt eBay will get the money back from the buyer though. They’ll probably have to write it off.

I won't even entertain selling on eBay, I feel FB Marketplace or gumtree is more secure now if you exercise caution.

I tried to sell a laptop on their and nearly fell for a hacked account, I'd have sent the laptop, got the money, then the money would have reversed out of my account as it was all hacked.

Thing is tho the scammer has still won as he has a working card and the refund, unless ebay can claw it back

I'm sure they'll claw it back, they'll simply reverse the fund out of PayPal.
