Have bought extra thermals, big boots, removable snow grips, and dug out my wool jumpers.

If it's seriously cold you want multiple layers, not one big thick thing over a tee shirt.

I visited Tromso in January via the Hurtigruten - I went all the way to Kirkenes where it was -37 - and it was barely below freezing in Tromso.

Be warned that alcohol is seriously expensive. Gifts of wine or spirits will be very well received! And do carry spare torches. The sun is below the horizon all day.

Cheers - am all about the layers so I'm adding a thermal undershirt and longjohns to my usual, plus cotton and wool jumpers layers. Hopefully it'll do. I can also double trouser if needed.

Torches is a good shout, have head torch and pocket torch so far!

In Kirkenes I wore thermal longjohns, normal trousers and ski trousers. Two layers of normal socks then thick socks going over my inner trousers. But in Tromso itself you get the benefit of the Gulf Stream. That stops when you go inland! So I don't think you will need to do too much dressing up.
