first upgrade in 10 years

I need to upgrade my pc and have been looking at a 9900k or ryzen 9 3900x.
I only play 3 games - iracing, x-plane 11 & DCS, i use VR for all 3.
What's the best processor to get?

What's your budget?
It's a bad time to invest in Intel.
AMD would be the better choice going forward.

current gpu is a 1080ti, budget is upto £1500 excluding the graphics card

AFAIAA only X-Plane makes use of many cores. iRacing only uses a few cores, likewise DCS.
