Maybe it's just a different upbringing between us, but if I acted as her son had done my parents wouldn't have been straight on the phone to a Hush Hush lawyer to attempt to cover it up when a newspaper tried to report on it.
Instead they'd have admitted my error if asked and said "yes, he's been an idiot and we're ashamed of his behaviour, we didn't bring him up to behave like that but we'll still love him regardless and hope this is a turning point for him" because thats how people who believe in being held responsible for their actions (good and bad) behave, not by trying to hide the truth but by being open and honest.

Some class a hypocrites in this thread who at best would ignore the story if it was about a Tory in a similar position and in many cases would be only to willing to lead the discussion.
Why don't you take your tacit suggestion for authoritarian censorship of opinions and facts you don't like out of this thread and go somewhere else?

Perhaps she should have a word with Jack Straw on how to go about getting criminal relatives a lenient sentence.
The fact her kid acted terribly is one thing, can't really write her off for that.
The fact she used her position and influence and tried to hide it, less so.
The fact she put her child through private school because a state school was not up to the job, and now wants to push through laws that effectively try to kill the private school sector is damning to the highest order.
It's almost an equivalent of trying to improve the NHS by abolishing private health provision. Private healthcare takes a massive load off the NHS by removing the burden to care for a significant part of the population.
Like lot of Labour nonsense, it does not stack up, is hypocritical, and will almost certainly not improve the system they intend to target.
