I have a horrifically bad PND, they've never quite worked out exactly what causes it but things like stimulants and dust make my life an absolute misery!

If, for example I take a pre-workout stimulant, within 10 minutes I'll be running to the toilet gagging and coughing my lungs up because of the sheer amount of mucus running into my throat!

If I haven't hoovered the rooms, my nose will be in a state the minute I walk through the door from work, many occasions I'll actually vomit my breakfast or dinner up because of the gagging!

I've been taking steroid nasal sprays for over a year and can't go to bed at night without medication to dry my nose up! Nothing helps! Even with a humidifier on constantly, it's never quite gone!

Anyone similar?

So you take a pre work out "stimulant" (whatver the F this may be), you realise that it causes problems, and you still continue to take it??

What the actual hell?!

Stuff like this is your body's way of saying NO THANKS to any foreign junk either in the stuff we consume or the crap in the atmosphere around us.

No? I'm saying I've taken them before and it's caused issues? Due to the general severity of the PND, it's very hard to narrow down exactly what causes issues, fortunately after a while I manage to narrow certain things down. I didn't say I continue to take things that cause issues but hey, way to jump the gun keyboard warrior!

My job involves making treatments for allergic rhinitis. Some of them are incredibly effective. For example, one trial I manufactured for involved dosing healthy patients with capsaicin (the active in chilli powder) solution to make their noses run and then using my product to stop it. It worked, which just goes to show it is fairly effective.
I have also been to a seminar from a woman who suffers from PND 24/7/365. She credited using such drugs for giving her back her life and enabling her to have a relationship.
I would suggest that you go and have a talk to your GP. Don't take any guff about steroids. There are far more effective products available. Regrettably, the stuff I am working on won't be released for 5 years or so.

My nose is pretty awful. Not so bad that it goes to the back of my throat but some days it can / has been unbelievable. Literally pints of mucus coming out of my nose, there doesn't seem to be anything that can cause it and it happens all year round. I was given Beconase a couple of times middle of last year but that didn't work too great, had a prescription for Nasonex since late December and it's been a lot better. Not blocked or runny, finally being able to breath clearly through my nose is lovely. There has been a random couple of days were it's been really bad but it's not constant or often any more.

I have a dust allergy and suffer from hayfever, both which cause me to get PND. I find irrigating my nose with sterimar spray (a seawater saline spray) helps reduce its severity and stops my PND becoming a sore throat or other infection which happens from time to time. I clean my nose like this every couple of days to keep it at bay, and manage it.

If I'm doing some hardcore cleaning in a dusty environment I wear a dust mask.

Its good to know people are working on solutions to it too!

Wasn't aware there were many treatments. I have Acute Rhinitis (apparently) am always bunged up, hayfever and other allergies make it far worse. No PND though!

I discovered an allergy to Febreeze when changing my air freshener (which I have never had an issue with until they "NEW AND IMPROVED NOW WITH ADDED FEBREEZE"d it. Cue the most miserable week and a half until I discovered what it was. Needless to say, they went in the skip!

I had similar problems a few years back.

I used Vicks Sinex (that nasal spray) day in day out three times a day for about three years. Completely ****ed my nose up. Its a lot better now that I've stopped using it, but everytime I get a cold my nose becomes really bad. Takes longer to shift colds too.

Nasal sprays are great initally, but good lord I could never use one now. They mean it when they say don't use them for more than a week.

I developed this 20 years ago and it was quite bad - pretty much had it all the time where I felt like I had to 'spit' all the time or I couldnt breathe; getting a cold was a nightmare because it just increased.

I still have this to a degree; not sure if my body adapted or what ... I'd start by looking at your diet and health etc ...
I find I do much better if I eat like a rabbit (but its hard to keep it up) meaning just raw veggies.

I've tried many many alternative treatments - still working on things as a matter of fact. Shoot me a trust message if you want to ask questions in particular.

I completely forgot I made this thread. I left the country for a couple of weeks just after I made it and suffered some of the worst cases of PND I've ever encountered - Reason being: Cold weather. I was in Finland and the cold air made it absolutely unbearable, I'm embarrassed to say this but I was sick in the street a couple of times, it was that bad! I was literally chocking on phlegm.

Since coming back, I've been back to the doctors and had additional check-ups by ENT specialists but as of yet, no conclusions have been drawn.

I'm still on a constant course of nasonex, sudafed and chlorpheniramine but same old results.

UNTIL recently....

I read an article online about certain forms of acid reflux causing PND.. which is also something I suffer from. So, I've been taking Peptac liquid and omeprazole and it seems to have made the drip more tolerable.

So, I'm thinking a combination of the warm weather and treatment for acid reflux has helped it.

I can't tell you how much of a difference these little changes in weather and medication have made to my life.

I would suggest that you go and have a talk to your GP. Don't take any guff about steroids. There are far more effective products available. Regrettably, the stuff I am working on won't be released for 5 years or so.

That sounds like a wonder drug, unfortunately my GP and other specialists have been useless in recommending other solutions. Leaving me to self diagnose and try out things on my own.

If it's been such a nightmare for so long it may be worth spending a bit of cash and seeing a doctor privately, not just a GP doc, a ENT consultant.

Doing it that way you can research the consultants, find those that have a special interest in the area, check their research papers to see if they have been conducting studies into it and generally find the best doc for your problem.

You may need to travel to find them but if they can help you cure it then it's money very well spent.

Hi,
I have had PND for 40 years with it causing me to clear my throat regularly every day during this period due to the impending choking sensation which it causes. Over these 40 years I have been aware that food intolerance affect me and it has taken until now to find out which intolerance / allergy causes the PND. I am intolerant to sulphites but the main cause of my PND is an intolerance to the nightshade food family most noteably tomatoes, strawberries and potatoes. These foods I love and have eaten almost daily during this period unaware that they caused my PND. I no longer eat these and for the first time in memory I no longer clear my throat ie. No PND.

Yes in my old house which suffered from really bad condensation and had dehumidifiers running all day every day. Don't have it all since I moved house and not sure if it was the humidity or the dehumidifiers that caused it but was definitely one of the two

A lot of nose problems like PND and nosebleeds are worsened by dry air.

I used to suffer from winter nosebleeds a lot in the morning. My bedroom humidity was around 35-38%. After an ENT recommendation, I bought a humidifier and used it to up the night time humidity in my room to around 48-50%. Since then, I have barely had one bleed, and even when I do, it’s a tiny trickle compared to the quite heavy flow I used to get.

So my problem literally has always been my nasal passages drying out and the vessels rupturing.

I get it really bad too, i was waking up every night with the driest mouth, only spraying my nose out would keep in clear for a few hours and i'd be coughing and throat clearing all day long.

recently i tried 'Tissue salts: combo H' by dr.Schüessler, worked amazingly well so far.
