Hi,

Recently bought 8 pack RAM here at OCUK, i was reading the posts in here that probably swayed my decision.

I have also ordered Tomahawk Max & Ryzen 3600x (which are due to arrive).

I want to achieve the best frequency/timings possible. I think this would be 3800 cl 16 / 3600 cl 14, though tell me if i am wrong?

Should i return it and get the VS 4400 instead? I heard something about 94% quality against 8 pack 92% quality?

I am really lost here........ I have also seen Corsair ram that is available for pre-order at OCUK 32GB for a little more in price? It says AMD optimized. These seem to be a better option, but again debatable whether 32GB will be needed right now or near future.

My 8pack 3200/cl14 shows as 93% so vs 94% there's not much in it and it will probably come down to silicon lottery as to which will clock higher. Mine lets me do 3600/cl14 or 3800/cl16, I run at the latter as it takes less voltage and scores slightly better which it probably due to the higher fclk.

im running a ryzen 5 3600 on b450 tomahawk max, with early bios I couldn't get fclk over 1866 but latest bios works fine on 1900 so worth updating.

Hi Joxeon,

That's good to know.

Would you expect that this should also hit the Viper steel clock speeds (incase i jump ship and go intel in the future)?

So 3800/1900 is the highest the mobo will support before IF becomes 2:1?

I,ve never tested my 8 pack 3200 kit at faster than 3800 but it does say on the overclockers product description that it can potentially do 4500.

Yeah, 3800/1900 is the highest you can go without going 2-1 and gaining a latency penalty.

Should be able to downclock the viper steel to 3600/14 3800/16 so either ram should work great, fine tuning subs would really depend on lottery as to which would go the tightest, seen posts from people with both sets that have had better luck on either one.

I use G.Skill RipJaws 3200MHz C14 kit, they can do 3800MHz C16 @ 1.35V on a R5 3600 and R9 3900X, with decent lengthy stability testing in things like Kahru RAM Test, Prime95, RealBench, Y-Cruncher, etc.

FCLK depends more on CPU. I've had a R7 3700X which was ~3.5MHz shy of reaching FCLK 1900MHz. The R5 & R9 manage 1900MHz as when I tweak BCLK they can go up ~1911MHz FCLK.

I used to own a kit of Viper Steel, returned as one day the heat spreaders just fell off. Luckily I wasn't using the PC at the time, they landed on the back of the GPU, which didn't have a back plate.

Probably best to avoid those then if they have QC issues.

Equally I am pumping 1.5v daily through my Vipers at 3800mhz and my heat spreaders are fine.
I had a set of 8 pack memory i had to send back and replace as 1 stick just errored all the time.
Does that make either set intrinsically bad ?
Nope.
Both the 8 Pack and Vipers are Samsung B die (at 4000+ speeds) and run exactly the same settings from the Ryzen Dram calculator.

Quite common with them, I can't link some reviews as they may be deemed as competitor links, here's link on reddit with two peeps from quick google.

It's a heads up, dunno if the heat spreaders could short something, but as I saw this thread I thought I'd state what can happen.

Even if they did fail there is in my case no chance of them hitting the GPU as like the majority my GPU is above the memory slots.

8 Pack RAM appears to then be of better quality. If they are a B die, then i guess it just comes down to silicon lottery and not from which brand is better. I guess the difference between the ram speeds as advertised is that they have been tested to work at these speeds and it would be uncertain to run at any other overclocked speeds...... In which case they are probably able to do it, its just a way to sell different frequencies of RAM to different consumers?

What program are you using to read your RAM quality?

As I have both I can confirm that both 8 pack 4000mhz and Viper 4400Mhz both run rock solid at 3600 c14.
Using ryzen Dram calc settings Ryzen gen 2 and profile version 1 and fast calculation.

I got unlucky with my Viper 4400… couldn't get it stable with Ryzen calc fast settings, errors galore. Ended up returning it and moved back to my E Die Ballistix Sport.
