240Hz at 5120x1440? Where's that bandwidth coming from? Would suggest DP 2.0 or more likely HDMI 2.1 perhaps.

That was on my mind too. I'm guessing at least users can upscale from lower resolutions for the higher FPS.

I thought most monitors were still DP 1.2 where as some GPU's are DP 1.4 (I am sure my Titan Xp is) so surely DP 2.0 is a while away?

I hope DP 2.0 will finally come to fruition in this monitor, as well.

But it would just be DSC, probably.

Or, maybe, Samsung engineers found a way to implement adaptive sync through a couple of DP 1.4 ports.

The 32" G7 is the one that interests me. Although the article states 2560*1440 Res in the Samsung link in the OP, I'm assuming that refers to the 27" model and that the 32" model will be 3440*1440?

With support for Gsync & Freesync it removes the tie to a single choice for GPU purchase - and with a 240Hz refresh rate, I don't think my 1080ti will cut it!

No I'm guessing the G7-series will be 16:9.

i'd expect the 32" model to be 2560 x 1440 as well. 3840 x 2160 @ 240Hz isn't an available or in production panel option at the moment

Any ideas on what connection the 49" will be using B.A.? I'm guessing DP 2.0 is nowhere near yet so HDMI 2.1?

I was thinking it would be 3440*1440, why would anyone want a 32" 16:9 1440 panel? :confused:

If it's 16:9 then I wouldn't be interested. I also wouldn't be interested in the larger screen as who knows when a GPU would be available to push it @ 240fps.

I think this, as the monitor comes with two DP 1.4 ports, but havent heard any manufacturer using this feature yet, but I guess that would be the only way to run this monitor at native resolution 10-bit 240 hz. Don't think DSC would be enough?
It also only have one HDMI 2.0 port. So no HDMI 2.1.

Plenty of people do buy ~32" 16:9 monitors with a 2560 x 1440 resolution. There are many models of that sort available and it hits the sweet spot for some users between size/immersion, price and performance. On the contrary, there are no 3440 x 1440 models smaller than 34".

Agree with the general sentiment on this thread that 5120 x 1440 @240Hz will take quite some grunt to push. Although it might work on some graphically less-demanding titles (CS:GO and the like), the VA panel is almost certainly going to be far from fast enough for a convincing 240Hz experience. I've tested some 240Hz VA models with lower resolutions and felt the 240Hz was somewhat wasted. It still brought some benefits, but it was far from ideal due to obvious weaknesses in pixel responsiveness.

An interesting talking point for me, not mentioned in this thread, is the 1000R curve that these models all have. That's very steep. 1500R is the steepst curvature I've used (and I'm using right now as I type this). Found it natural and easy enough to adapt to. But 1000R is significantly steeper, so it will be interesting to see how that goes down.

1000R to me feels a bit too steep on the 32” and certainly on the 27” models. Can understand it for the 49” ultrawide more but on the others it seems a bit unnecessary

These do look amazing and a fantastic design. The G7 27" 240Hz 1440 is tempting me. I imagine these will still be edge lit still like the previous generation they replace. I assume more than eight light sources for these panels then to get 600 nits. The G9 I assume will be FALD to get 1000 nits.

Nope, they hit it with the previous edge-lit model (CRG90) and was pretty decent tbh.

Should have made it 3000R then you could wear its speakers as headphones!
