Seems a shame that you have to have so many posts/ be a member for so long to access the market on here.

I would much rather buy from fellow enthuisasts if buying used. Having been an Ebay member for 20 years with 100% feedback on over 2000 times, you would think that would maybe count for something; but do understand the challenges of policing such things.

Even an option to view and buy would be better, even if you were not allowed to sell straight away.

Having said all that having never seen it, not sure how active the marketplace is?

I am also restricted to 15 posts per day, which is also a shame when I am just trying to get into it and help and contribute as much as I can.

Just wanted to say my piece!

it regularly gets debated on here, general consensus is folk are in favour.

makes sense, the kind of stuff gets sold on here is pretty pricey so it helps to have a lot of community trust behind sales.

This has been raised a few times. But the reason for the high post count requirement is to reduce risk. I'm sure occasional problems do occur, but generally it seems much safer than eBay etc. I have bought and sold on here many times and far prefer it to other places.

Yes it is quite active.

Members Market?

The Members Market is provided as a free service to active and contributing forum members. OcUK are not liable for any deals that are done in the Members Market, you are free to buy and sell at your own risk. Please read the rules of the Members Market before you proceed to make your first sale.

Please note that all price checking threads must be posted in the Price Checks forum; they are not to be posted anywhere else on the forum.

Access to the Members Market forum requires two things. Firstly, you will need to have over 1000 posts and have been signed up for at least 180 days. Please note that this does not mean you spam the forums simply to increase your posts, as this action will result in posts being deducted, and if you continue this behaviour, your account will eventually be banned/suspended. Once you reach 1000 posts, you will need to activate your trust. The Trust system is for Members Market feedback only and not to be used for general user comments. Abusing the trust system will not be tolerated and such abuse will result in your account being suspended/ banned. Trust activation is either found in your UserCP, or you can press the trust button that appears at the bottom of all your posts.

Once you satisfy both of these criteria, Members Market access will be granted within 24hrs. Please do not post on the forums asking why you cannot access the members market, if you have any queries, email one of the forum Dons/Admins. The contact addresses are available in the FAQ. There is no buying, or selling allowed outside of the Members Market.

Regarding the 15 post limit
I had the limit because a new member
Like you said its a real nuisance if you are in the middle of helping someone then suddenly you can't reply
I understand its to stop new members bot spamming
But would have lasted for 30 days
The moderators were extremely helpful to me with this and resolved it for me
So if the 15 posts limit is a total pain perhaps contact a moderator
I assume they looked through my posts to make sure I wasn't posting load of rubbish before helping
They were very persistent trying a few different things until they got me sorted
Which I am very grateful for.

Ps can see you are not a new member but already forgot the other criteria ~brain like a seive lately~it may be your post count

Needs to be limits, it's easy enough to get your post count up by simply joining in on chats and that bit of effort seems to be enough to keep the MM fairly trouble free which I'm all in favour of.

That and awesome mods*

Isn’t there another subforum for the mods and gods on here?

I guess there is. There usually is a dedicated admin/mod forum on most large forums. We have them on the couple of forums that I'm admin/mod on, you have to have somewhere that you can openly **** of your userbase without recourse. :D

You just have to hope nobody gains access and makes all the **** you say public.

TBH you're not missing much not being a member of the MM, 90% of the best deals on second hand stuff I've found elsewhere.

You need to get lucky to catch something for a good price and beat other posters within minutes of the thread going live and good luck with that.

Wanted section is pretty much dead.

Thats seems sensible tbh... if it is clear you're not a bot and the limit just serves to stop you from legit participating in threads then good they solved it for you.

As for the OP's complaint - I'd agree with a lot of the other posters, it seems like a good system - the purpose of the forums isn't just to serve as a specialist eBay, the market is an added bonus not a sole reason to join.

Top tip, just pop into the Brexit thread and post something that isn't pro-remain, you'll soon have like 4-5 notifications as all the regulars immediately descend to quote you and object/rant etc.. giving you plenty of stuff to reply to... it can grow quite quickly there - they're super keen :)

It's a system which has worked well for us for many years and which the majority of people seem happy with.

I am also restricted to 15 posts per day, which is also a shame when I am just trying to get into it and help and contribute as much as I can.
15 posts/day for the first thirty days and we also recently made a slight tweak which imposed that limit for the first 100 posts, no matter how long you'd been a member. You're now above 100 posts so the limit should have gone for you. That was a temporary change and it's now just for the first three weeks or so of membership. We've had people join and then spam multiple forums with hundreds of posts immediately and this is to avoid that happening again.

You complain that you are required to be a member for a while and contribute 1,000 posts .. and then present your length of service in another market and how many contributions you've made to that community as evidence of your trustworthy credentials.

Think about it.

Also, eBay is horrendous and the main reason why I prefer the MM.

The MM isn't all about getting the cheapest deals. You're dealing in confidence with people who generally have integrity and will still be contactable if you need any follow up or returns/RMA etc. Even months after the sale. Don't forget, the MM is for sellers as well as buyers and places like eBay offer very little confidence to sellers.

Thanks for all the responses.

The post limit was a bit of a pain, as I was helping someone the other day and then I couldn't respond, if that has gone away now that I am above 100 posts then that is good news.

I prefer to deal with knowledgeable people when buying goods, so would far prefer here to Ebay. Happy to pay more to know the source etc.

Will just need to wait until my post count gets up.

Not that I need anything just now, but like to see what's out there; although a decent 2070/2080 Super would be nice.
