So, are the 19.12.3 fine now with overclocking again? Would be nice to be able to squeeze some extra performance again with latest drivers as just about to play through Control.
Unfortunately not. HBM works but the core is just broken in "tuning". ALT+R applying settings in 3D mode doesn't even work, may apply and then drops off!

Night and day! The blast plate on the Alphacool blocks is of a very poor design. What sort of temps are you currently getting.
I'm running 1801mhz @ 950mv 1140HBM. I'm hitting a max of 33c edge and 62c junction on the EK block. 29-30c unless my heating is on. My junction temp was 20-30c hotter with the alphacool block!

I didn't win the silicone lottery with this card so 1900 core @ 1188mv with 1100hbm gets me a t-junction of 95-100 with the AlphaCool block. Hoping for lower temps although it's never throttled. 1088mv 1108mv was my stock and it wouldn't undervolt at all.

1088mv isn't bad at all. I think you should aim for 1000mv for 1800mhz. Your junction temps seem hauntingly familiar, even with a D5 pump turned upto 4000rpm (4800 been max) the alphacool block was terrible with that awful design. I did a post on there a while ago regarding it. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Had a bit of a moment thinking about vii blocks after watching 8 Packs coverage from Computex 2019, regarding all the research and development he's been upto with regards to getting the very best out of water cooling.
I've now worked out why the Alphacool block doesn't match the likes of EKWB and Bykski for Junction temps!

1: The flow is top-bottom not left-right onto the core. (alphacool top-bottom)
2: The fins are all the same length so have the more surface area. (The alphacool has the centre at a reduced high)

Cutting the fins smaller in the centre been the hottest part of the die is crazy!

So EK and Bykski are the best performance due to design.
Barrow maybe similar to Alphacool having reduced height fins in the centre but left-right flow may help.

Well after a week of fun and games, I've got an update on my experience with 2 brands of water blocks!

Settings used for the testing....
1900mhz core 1140mhz HBM @ 1000mv. (my daily)
3D Mark Fire Strike Ultra Stress test. (3 runs to warm up the loop)
22.5C ambient on both days.

Alphacool Eisblock GPX-A Plexi Light AMD Radeon VII - incl. backplate
This was best case as during the week I rebuilt the card twice and it got worse!

Yes, it is. I even did not do ddu from 19.5 and it works like charm. MorePowerTool for overclocking (and set min rpm=max rpm just for any case ) and AMD interface to put memory and 99% for the power. I can post the settings later. My real average freq is 2060MHz

I've been chatting with one person, who could get 460W usage with low junction temps. He used liquid metal. But the funny fact, that he had a bit less score in 3dmark..

EK block is here but haven't had time to fit it. Also got myself a FreeSync monitor finally. Which leads me to my current problem.

I'm still running 19.4.1 on Win7x64. It has been fine and I'm a firm believer in leaving things alone if they are working.

But now it isn't. With FreeSync on I'm getting brightness Flickr while gaming. Turn FreeSync off and the image is stable. Searching the web reveals I'm not alone in this problem but also I haven't been able to find a solution.
Apparently different driver revisions change the intensity of the flickering, as do different cables. I'm using a Club3d cable that I bought at the same time as the monitor.

Has anyone else had this issue and managed to resolve it? I can't find anything that states the real reason for this be it panel, GPU or cable (although some looks quality cables are questionable).

Also what driver revision works best for you with your VII?

Thanks in advance.

19.7.5 is the last driver that core oc works without using power tables ect.. Windows 7 is game over on Tuesday so I'd move over to windows 10 asap. If you have a coa sticker for 7 it will activate windows 10. Just use it during the install for activating the same edition. (Home for home, pro for pro).
I'd give 20.1.1 a go on windows 10 and see if your issues subside. Make sure you install the latest chipset driver first too.

Cheers, I'll give 19.7.5 a go. Already using power tables. I'll pass on win 10 though. MS support is ending on Tuesday that is all.

Issue still there. Tried 19.7.5 and 19.12.1 but no change. Tried the cable that came with the monitor, also no change.

At this point I'm wondering if I should send the monitor back? The issue really seems to be FreeSync though and I've not read of anyone fixing it by changing monitor.

@Chud_Jenny so my tjunction hit 112 in GTA on the AlphaCool while running 2560x1440 with Freesync. Now with the EK block it has topped out at 58! As you said "night and day". Lesson learned.

I could not sell the AC block on as I have a conscience. Also the state of the block was shocking.

Only just seen your message. Didn't get an email notification. I'm glad you ended up with a good result!

I'd ddu your current driver in safe mode. Then if you are running an AMD cpu make sure you have the latest chipset driver installed first then reinstall the latest 20.1.3 and see how you get on.
