Exactly; it’s a non-story. If she’s paying her fair share in tax, then frankly I’m delighted. Would people rather she bugger off to a tax-haven and hide her earnings?
Gambling is a form of entertainment, not dissimilar to the alchohol or fast food industries. If people enjoy it, then fair play to them. To those that have a problem with it, I feel deeply sorry for them. But we should be pointing a finger at our government, not the product of our capitalist society. Companies like this create jobs, infrastructure and bolster our economy. Dramatically.
I do not like the premise of phoning up big betters and depositing money into their accounts to reinitiate the gambling cycle, but I’m yet to see evidence of bet365 doing this. I’d happily support legislation that ceased this practice, but it doesn’t change my view on the subject.
Do I think she should be paying her staff more, instead of taking such an obscene bonus? I can’t say, I don’t know the figures.
Besides, I doubt there are many people who wouldn’t take that sort of money if they could. The thought of what I could do for my family with a month of her salary leaves me practically salivating

I don't think it would require a redefinition. More a removal of an exception. Gambling is paying money for a chance of getting something more valuable to you (but you'll probably lose money). Loot boxes are paying money for a chance of getting something more valuable to you (but you'll probably lose money). Loot boxes are gambling. They're only treated differently because they're treated as an exception.

There's a clear conflict of interest between politicians and gaming companies. It's frustrating to watch because it's really obvious that in years to come people will look back at this and wonder why we ever tolerated or encouraged it.

Good. The sooner we get rid of bookies the better. I love a bit of matched betting but even I can see the effect this addiction has on people, it's not worth it.

Gambling companies could go further with responsible gambling.
It is only recently you can see your profit / losses from a year previous. This could be more visible on login and what is needed imo is a way to view your whole history since joining profit / loss. But you will find they don't like doing this for obvious reasons.

Whilst not the biggest dataset, i had to go to a few GA type meetings once and found most of them had just substituted one addiction for another.
It was fairly depressing hearing people talk about overcoming their addiction, whilst they then talk about playing computer games for 7 hours a night every day and how they have to do that and didn't seem to realise that was their new addiction.
I think there are underlying issues behind addicts so the fact gambling companies put money back into foundations like the above can only help people address the underlying issues.

Betting needs to go back to old skool licensed bookie offices where you could put bets on the horses and dogs etc only and no FOBT. Not all this online casino and party poker nonsense, that's where all the problems come from.

I'd fundamentally disagree with anything trying to stop actual sports books/exchanges or online poker though. Big difference between those things and some mindless muppet spinning a roulette wheel online or on some FOBT/computer in a bookies.
