Every few years for the last two decades Intel have promised to bring out a dedicated GPU or say that their integrated graphics will rival dedicated video cards and they always fail to deliver. We'd all welcome more competition but I'll be amazed if this time is any different ......!

It seems like from a business point of view it would make more sense for them to try and focus on improving integrated graphics in their mobile chipsets to sway consumers away from AMD/Nvidia rather than trying to compete in the duopoly that is the desktop GPU sector.

It seems like an odd product for Intel to launch at this stage?

Intel trying to get to the compute market where AMD & Nvidia are making a lot of money. No Intel CPU current in the market can compete even with the Vega 64 on computing, let alone MI60 or the upcoming MI100 beast. To get there needs to start from somewhere for the compute stuff.

For the graphic part, needs licensing pattents that neither Nvidia nor AMD going to give to Intel.
So Intel is pretty stuck requiring to re-invent the wheel when comes to gaming.

Thats why for 2 years now everyone says, don't expect some magic Intel GPU competing with AMD & Nvidia. Is a compute only card.

Ah ok, that makes more sense as to why they'd want to get back into the GPU market!

Ofc. Anyone who believed they would make a card that would compete with AMD & Nvidia, didn't listened to all the signs. Already since last year there are videos and information what's the actual purpose of the card. Yet some believe a magical RTX2080Ti performance Intel GPU would hit the market soon!
