"4k gaming" is a bit of a subjective term anyway because it depends on the game, what settings are used, what framerate you expect etc in terms of how achievable it is. A bit like the "HD gaming" of yesteryear.

Three months too late.
It's an AMD GPU. You don't expect anything else, really. It'll be released after x+1 months, where x is the time it takes for most almost everyone to lose interest. The rest will be wiped out by an uncontrollable hype train that disintegrates on impact with reality.

Then in about a year's time when AMD have figured out how to drive it properly, it'll be competitive with nV's outgoing cards.

And repeat.

it will be doing that on release i bet, as its going to be competing against the 2000 series of cards not the 3000 even going off the most upbeat and wishful thinking of it beating a 2080ti so again competing with a 3070 maybe.

and 3 months behind is being very generous try more like 12 months behind with the 2080ti (which some claim its going to beat) shipping sep 2018. yes its that old now. just get the feeling we will get another funny launch where both amd and nvidia will be trying to surprise the other on price and dates, which is good for us if you can wait for 3rd party reviews as if its priced well and does beat a 2080ti/3070 and its ray tracing isnt a complete joke could hopefully bring some common sense back to pricing.

as for the 4k gaming, we had the same claims about that for the xbox one then the one s and the ps4 and ps4 pro, ended up being very limited true 4k in both cases with scaling up and at best 4k30 when it did true 4k. so id take the 4k gaming stuff with a rather large handful of salt for now. especially when you toss in ray tracing, i do get a feeling though that this time ray tracing could get a fair shake in tests if cyberpunk 2077 makes good use of it and it actually makes a big difference.

Ray tracing is fine and all that but basic raw performance and price is far more important. Nvidia want to move the argument away from that towards their RTX solution but I’m marginally interested at best and won’t allow it to be a smoke screen for the basics.

It'll launch just in time to be obliterated by Ampere. AMD don't seem to get that releasing when they're ahead is better than releasing just after or at the same time as Nvidia release a superior card.
