My mums GTX 970 as died and she asked me to get her a new one, she games at 1080p on a i7 7700K with 16GB memory and SSD on a Mini ITX System. She mostly plays games like World of Warcraft, Rift and Sims etc.

She will eventually upgraded to her Motherboard, CPU and also monitor to 1440p end of year beginning of next. So with this in mind what do you think I should get her?

The RTX 2060 Super and RTX 2070 have the same 8GB 256bit memory and can be had for the same price but I’m not sure which is better, common sense says the 2070 is better but the 2060 is a Super!

which one?

Thanks

The 2070 is the faster card of the two but not by a big margin. If You can find both for the same price I’d go for the 2070 as long as it physically fits in an ITX case and you have the right power connections on the psu.

Thanks guys I’ll get her the RTX 2070 for £355 :)

The super cards are better built, use less power and run cooler. The performance is roughly the same for the two cards.

But, you have made your decision. Good luck with your new card.

forget going 1440P IMO.

if you go 1440P you need to essentially double your budget. GPU prices are high so anything you can do to mitigate that is good.

1080P is still fine for up to 27 inch screens.

that way all she needs is a 1660 super for £200.

if you do go 1440P and if it's a fast refresh monitor like 144hz, 165hz or 240hz then you need a 2070 or 2070 super. which is £450.

you can save that money by staying at 1080p. the difference in quality isn't really worth spending more than double the money on a GPU IMO.

I changed to a 1660s as a stop gap until the new 3000 series cards, and running at 3840x1080 (slightly more pixels pushed than 1440) was getting decent frames on BFV at mid settings.
