RIGHT...THAT'S IT...........New Motherboard arrived today (along with the kettle lead they forgot to return) so the rebuild started.

MoBo, CPU, Cooler and one stick of RAM built outside case....AND.........

BINGO! :D it only bloody worked innit!

so

MoBo, CPU, Cooler and one stick of RAM and one SSD drive - YES!

So

dismantle (again) and rebuild Inside the case - YES

So

Add GFX card and use that instead of onboard GFX and also add second stick of RAM and.............YES! :D

The only trouble now is trying to understand the hotlink I seem to have to NASA's control centre, I think its called the Boggling Information Overload System or something.

Thanks guys for all your support, you've been great oh, but if there are any budding astronauts....errr, I mean Boggling Information Overload System engineers here please stick around ;)

Glad to hear its all worked out.
I find that with the bios you can get away with relatively little fiddling these days. Tend to set the XMP profile for the ram and maybe MCE as you're using the 9900k and leave the rest alone :p

cheers guys, Im Soooo relieved, I thought I was going daft LOL.

I'll have a look at the XMP thing, I also have a newer BIOS to put on but I think I'll just enjoy a working PC for now, I don't want to wreck it just yet :D

Lol yeah last thing you want right now is a borked bios flash
You can check what speed your ram is running in the memory section of cpuz
X2 whatever speed it says

I have somehow managed to miss most of the posts on page 3 of this thread.

Mrbell, I am so sorry for missing those posts but I sincerely thank you for reading those manuals and trying to help me.

Regarding the stepping of the CPU I have no idea so will have to research how to confirm that.
Regarding the ATX PSU connections, yes, I did connect both the 4 and 8 pin connectors as like some of you said, the power supply connectors could separate.
I’ll see if I can find where to check the RAM speed when I get back as I will be away from the computer for a couple of days, returning late Friday night.

The computer was running Black Desert non-stop since yesterday and when I checked it this morning everything was fine, so it seems as if (dare I say it) all is well.

When I get back I’ll sort out flashing the BIOS to get that up to date.

Once again, thanks to all of you

Best regards
Bob

It certainly did take a while. The OCUK Tech support chap told me to RMA the second Gigabyte Motherboard and to save waiting time, purchase another brand and they will refund me the cost of the Aorus. I just hope they honour that and do not insist on sending me a replacement as I have now paid a substantial amount for the Asus.

Anyway, you wanted pics of the build and after all the help you have offered it would be remiss of me not to comply, so here they are, the insides and front of my new machine :D
