I had an email from them which suggested not all stores were closing, any else get this?

We would love to keep our stand-alone stores open, but the way people shop has changed, and we need to change too. Our shops inside Currys PC World are the future and there are over 300 of them across the country. They're modern. They're specialist. And we hope you'll find them easy to get to.

Rest assured there's no change whatsoever to the way you shop with us. And you can still enjoy all the same online services - next day delivery, Click & Collect and live chats with real advisors.

The next few weeks will be tough for many of our colleagues who work in the stand-alone Carphone Warehouse stores that are closing. We'll be working hard to support them through this time, including offering alternative roles wherever we can.

I've often wondered how all the mobile shops keep going on the high street to be honest. Even in your average dead town center you'll see an EE, O2, Vodafone, Three and Carphone shop usually with pretty much no one in them.

Average Joe public has got themselves stuck into 18-24 month contracts how often do they need to go into a mobile shop for anything apart from maybe a bit of tech support which earns said shop nothing?

I was thinking the same walking thru town in space of 50m Vodafone,O2,EE & 3 used be CPW 2 but that moved to new shopping area 500m away ./ Tesco seem to be pushing 36 month contracts now that's insane

I worked in the London head office for 8 years, and watched the downward spiral happen. A comedy of errors from management over that time, but my colleagues were ace. But when they made 90% of my team redundant for questionable reasons, I jumped ship.

I feel for the frontline staff but I can't say i'll miss the company. Awful pushy sales technique and little to no interest in customer care or after sales support. Good riddance them and Phones4U.

I won't be shopping with them again that's for sure. I bought my last phone from them, they didn't set up the insurance I asked for. Also, I didn't get the payment for my old phone when I sent it in even though it was only worth a few quid.

they'll be rolling a load of the services into Currys stores, but if you look at their group results from last year Carphone were dragging them down big time - was a huge mistake to merge tbh. Without Dixons Carphone would have gone the way of Phones4U ages ago!

It's the madness where they have multiple stores in the same location.

In a local retail park, there's one in a Currys and then the separate Carphone Warehouse about 100yds away. Similar stories in town centres and shopping centres.

I get that they have long leases but it feels like there could've been better solutions, even to the point of shutting them to avoid the overheads of running them!

On the capitol centre? Its a bloody joke. When I went to look at iPhone 11's, there was no stock in the little shop and they were very disinterested, but in Curry's they had stock. I suppose they'll turn it into a Costa for a bit of competition with Starbucks.
