My only problem is that this LG is a *very* hungry beast and it could easily eat an upcoming 3080Ti even though it's not strictly needed! So I may jump in at the end of 2020...

Currently gathering parts for my second build. I'll use the system iv'e got just now mostly for software development.

I'll buy a secondhand GPU until Nvidia's Series 4 or AMD's equivalent (RDNA 3) arrive. That's also when i'll buy a new VRR/G-sync compatible TV and a nice VR kit.

Just going through my game library at the moment, so have plenty of time to wait for newer tech.

My upgrade is driven by VR.

I have the original CV1 release of the HTC Vive and it's been a revelation for gaming - mainly for Elite Dangerous, but other stuff too.

I still enjoy flat screen gaming, although it isn't my main aim for graphic cards as it's generally OK on my monitors and I'm happy with lower graphics settings.

When building PC's in the past I've been happy with mid-range cards and my current motherboard/cpu has dealt with it whenever I've upgraded (7870 - 290 - 1080ti for context).

I'm happy with the Vive ecosystem and build.

But, the next gen of VR seems to push my 1080ti too far, and way beyond my fairly ancient cpu/mboard.

So, my strategy by the end of 2020 is:

1 - See what the emerging/available Vive model is - be it the Vive Pro or otherwise.
2 - Sort out a new build based on a cpu/mboard which can cope with the next 2 generations of graphics cards. I'm not interested in overclocking (sorry).
3 - Get a 3080ti.

The main challenge seems to be '2'.

Currently running two gaming rigs:

Lounge PC: 9700k & 980Ti
Office PC: 5820k & 980Ti

Plan for 2020 is to upgrade the Lounge PC 980Ti to a 3080/3080Ti and put the 980Ti back into the office PC SLI. CPU wise I am happy, considered replacing 5820k with a 6850k but not sure it will be worth it, might just hold off and replace with 10/11 series Intel CPU when prices come down.
You be better off selling the 2 980ti's and putting the money towards a 1080ti or 2060 super or something AMD ( I haven't kept up with AMD cards to be able to recommend any)

I would say you will need more grunt than that.

I have a 3440x1440 120hz, even trying to get stable 75-90fps in BF5 I have to play at medium settings and I have a 2070 Super. At high settings it was dipping down to 60-65 a lot.

It's why I'm looking at a new 3080, wouldn't have bothered on my old monitor (1440p 144hz)
I mainly play older AAA titles like Warhammer 2 The Witcher 3 and Skyrim SE. They play okay at 1440p ultrawide with a 1080ti so I'm getting a 5700XT. The only other games I'm looking to get are Doom Eternal, Cyberpunk, and Warhammer 3.

I keep looking to change my ryzen 2600 it has the stock cooler and I have not overclocked but even then I just can't find a reason to replace it yet it's been such a good buy - I game at 1440p and currently have a Vega 56 MSI blower fan and I do not like that very much it's hot and the drivers aren't very stable (have gone through the whole undervolt process which helped) performance is fine though. So I may well swap that out for an Nvidia 3060 or 3070 when they hit.

i5 6600k, AMD 7850. Completely stuck on what to do. AM4 for next upgrade, maybe next year at current rate.

7850 is really showing age, but when I tried upgrading to a Vega 56 it didn't play nicely with rest of system. Debating trying to make an offer on something in the B grade sale?

7700K and 1080TI here + 1440p UW+valve index

happy with 1080ti at the moment as it still seems to be cutting the mustard so not really in any rush for new cards. Will likely upgrade to 3080/ 3080 ti once they come out but if its 2021 I am not too fussed

7700k is starting to show its age as 4 core i7 is becoming recommended processor now. Currently playing mainly AAA games but I still will go back to flight sims aswell which unfortunately like intel. Waiting to see what next ryzen and intel bring out. Hoping for AMD improvement in single thread perf.
