Is there any difference between the steam version and the one you can download from the DCS site?

The differences as I'm aware are:
- You're giving all the money ED, as against 30% to Steam. Hopefully means that ED will continue to be well funded and developed
- Earlier updates on the standalone version
Personally I'm on the standalone and wouldn't go near the Steam version.

I also thought that more recent DLC bought on steam are not backwards compatible with standalone version. I would stick with standalone if im honest - plus you can download custom launchers to help with VR etc.

Start with DCS FC3 pack of jetfighters with simplified avionics (start engines with a single button push etc) :)
Top gun pilot I am not, but here is my go at replicating Doug Masters from the Iron Eagle (1986) movie. Anyone and everyone should try it imo, especially now with all the modules being free. The Hades bomb is dropped at 21:55, landing through the wall of fire follows shortly after.

One month of everything free is on now! On standalone DCS at least, not sure about Steam.

If anyone does play DCS on Steam and wants to try the free modules, you can 'transfer' your steam purchases over to the standalone version. Once you do that you can uninstall the steam version and then install standalone. From there you'll have access to all the free stuff...

Did it myself yesterday, it's easy enough.

Back in the saddle a quick months downtime. Have to say that I'm loving the updated night lighting. Was in the Gulf last night and it looked stunning.

Lot of noise about the frame rates, but I have to say that nothing appears to have really changed in performance, just that it now looks better (at least to me).
Took my friend for a spin the free to try F5, Yak52 and Mi8. Not a fan of the F5, but really wanted to show him the Yak and Mi8, both of which I love.
