Why don't GPU manufactures send out fan replacements?

This isn't the first time I've had a problem with a GPU fan, the last one was a 980 and prior to that was a 970 and they all either start or go the same way... Fan rattle or what can only be described as sand being rotated! Instead of cables going under the shroud and the entire GPU having to be returned just because of ONE damn fan, they should send out a fan replacement kit and a simple unscrew and reattach and it's done.. I mean hell you can do that with a cpu cooler!

Here's my RTX 2070 which arrived the other day and being returned tomorrow.. ONE fan is rattling, and because of that I had to have lower fan speeds under 80% which means hotter temps. Anything over 80% and I can hear it from across the room..

All ready to go back for tomorrow :(

I know :(
Thats why if I buy NV card, will get EVGA

Btw have you considered to find on YT a shroud replacement? Thats the standard one Gigabyte uses the last several years

Being picked up tomorrow matey, all packaged and ready to go :)

Seeing as it's like a day old in usage, they might as well deal with it!

the replacement fans do tend to be abit pricey, when if u got room and zip ties you can strap 2x 120mm fans on and have much better cooling and lower noise :)

Yeah my 1080 had non standard fans, I asked for spares and was told no, So i never go for anything but 4-5yr warrantys.

The new EU laws will clamp down on this, Products by law will be repairable and expected to last! So this will mean big things for chinese fan production. They ruined my 1080, My laptop etc the fans always die and im out of warranty with them.laughing at me. Meanwhile my moneys still 100% useable for them but my product is broken. This unjust and unfair one sided relationship rigthly has its days numbered!!!!

You can find replacement fans for most models on AliExpress. Bit of a wait for them to arrive even at the best of times though.

or just rip off the fans and slap on a pair of 140mm case fans job done and temps cooler than anything the original fans could do and quieter.

The GPUs are made in situ in China or wherever. They are then shipped out. No spares are shipped out so companies such as MSI don't have them.

It's a turn and burn industry.

And kill the resale value, And be preyed upon by members market members? No thanks!!! I actually chased them for a full refund and got all my £600 back. The fans also are NOT available on aliexpress some use non standard fans. Find me the 1080 AMP fans then superwide 110m blades.

You cannot, So you need to take drastic action.

yeah if you can get a refund or RMA great, same for replacing the fans like for like yourself if you're going to sell it on, but if you will be keeping it slapping 140mm fans on works wonders for cooling and noise levels.

I've done this on my old R9 290. Used two Arctic F12 PWM PST fans. 53CFM, 600-1350 RPM. So my temperature with old fans were on the limit (94 C), and with new fans it did not change. Throttling kicked in and as a result clock dropped from 997 to around 600-700. I lost half of performance in the test. from 4400 to 2600. Old fans were spigging at 2900 rpm, new ones are on the max of 1400 rpm. Do i need different fans?

you got a picture of the new setup ? and yeah if the fans on the old one where doing 2900rpm thats nuts. and i bet noisy as hell, as for you're new ones 1400 is slow id have gone with 2000rpms ones and also 140mms to get full coverage of the heatsink.

My old fans are Twin Frozr, straight blade, not curved. This is how they look> https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/123231750831 . I would buy if from china but giving the situation it might take months before i get it. And so happened that i broke one blade on mine and got massive vibration and extra noise because of that. I had it like this for years and because of corona holidays i decided to address it :). Maybe new fans are too close to the radiator? do they need some spacing?

could be the card needs stupidly powerful fans on it due to it being a really hot card, just had a quick google and it draws 300watts Oo so im guessing you need at least some 2k rpm fans id probably also have the heatsink off and give it a good clean and make sure all the heat paste/pads are fine. being a old card now.

Something is not righ unless arctic fans are bad, even at low rpm two 12cm fan should cool it better than 95mm , I would try Akasa Piranha, they run 1900 rpm and have very good Static air preassure to push the air through fins.

P. S if you are still using r9 290 on hot temps, thermal paste might need replacing.
