I found the following articles about BA deliberately blocking online cash refunds for Avios bookings and there is a Chrome workaround for that. It also states "If you ring British Airways, you WILL receive your cash refund."

Here are the links which maybe useful for some people:

Thanks for that. Had holiday booked for Canada next month, but they're planning to close their borders & no word from BA yet. Already out of pocket with a flight to Aberdeen next week that I'm not going to.

I booked with cash (on my Amex) and didn't use Avios points. I'm saving them for a holiday later in the year, which is looking likely to be next year now.

Long time lurker here but I've registered just to help. I also last week have had my BA Dubai flight in April cancelled which i booked using my AMEX (no Avios). Tried the links which Shardan posted and the tip works even for standard bookings not just Avios! Email confirmation from BA just received for the cash refund on the flights. :)

I rang them up in the end and they've processed a refund. All I've seen so far is the seat selection refund, but not the flights themselves or the upgrade I paid for. However, they did say it could take 7-10 days before I get it so I'll wait out for now.

Glad to hear you got it sorted and thanks for the info on the 7-10 days. The email confirmation simply states "The value will appear on the card account in the near future" so like you i'll wait it out for now and keep my eye on it.

Still no refund for the flights or upgrade. I must admit I’m starting to get a little frustrated, especially since there is seemingly no way to speak to them.

I'd give them a call as I've just checked my AMEX and the refund came in yesterday morning, super quick. Perhaps because i did it online it's processed differently? Regardless, not great and i hope you get it resolved soon.

Thanks for the tip. I've just been able to cancel my flights using this method :).

I held off from a proper holiday last year to go all out with a ski and summer holiday this year. Had stuff booked but obviously all cancelled now. 2021 will just have to be 3 years' worth of holiday packed into one!

I imagine if this clears up by August then there is gonna be a hell of a lot of people looking to escape at once!

Yeah, I was thinking that too, demand is going to be super high when this has cleared. And we used to think school holidays were bad

After 40 minutes on hold with an advisor trying to get through to the refunds team at BA, my call was cut off and I'm still £1600 down. Getting a bit frustrated with it all now.

I had to change a BA flight and called the Japanese office on Skype and they sorted quickly
