Want to buy something from a guy but he has no Paypal, etc.

He asked for Bank Transfer, are there any services that will deposit the money in his bank but also protect me if he turns out to be a scammer?

I'm a little weird about it, it is only £19 and he doesn't really live too far away, but with the lockdown and the fact it is right across London, postage would be cheaper than the train or car to go pick it up.

Where did you agree the sale, bit of a difference between say on a forum or gumtree for example. I've happily paid by bank transfer for higher amounts for things I've bought from here or other forums and tbh most of the time when you send money to an individual through paypal its not covered by their protection anyway.

For £19 I'd just bank transfer and take the risk. Not worth losing sleep over, if it is a scammer never mind. Infact its such a small sum its less likely to be a scammer they're after serious money most wouldn't get out of bed for such a piddling amount.

As above for £19 I’d just send by BT. However if you’ve met this person through eBay or Gumtree I’d be more weary.

What is the item?

Ask him if he'll accept half via bank xfer then the rest on receipt of a picture of postage receipt? As it's a small amount it probably isn't a scam but if it is it further reduces your loss.

There must be some escrow service available online.
misread that as "escort" service available online.

anyway moving on, i don,'t think cheque is any better than bank transfer.
what are the ebay options if no paypal? feels like. actually theres a few on their help page. certapay nochex i dont know how secure these are so look into it.

If its ebay
How much feedback they have?
Is it all positive?
Ebay user with no PayPal is peculiar
Would severely limit what they could buy
Small~under 20 quid scams are popular on ebay as people are less cautious
With smaller amounts
What they selling that no one else on ebay is selling?

It's Facebook marketplace. If it were Ebay I'd check feedback but there is none on FB
