So, if you are running a cloud based server with all the required mitigations in place:

"Bulldozer Opterons are faster and more secure at this point."

Yes............................i'll add another "Ouch" to the previous 2.

Don't most of the exploits require local access to the machine?

I seem to remember reading that. Yeah a quick Google seems to suggest most of these need you to have access to the physical device.

Not really no. Anyone that runs a server open to the net is open to attack, unless all mitigations are in place. There are plenty of peeps on this very forum that run servers from home. Anyone using a VPN is also open to attack as well, we all know that large numbers of peeps on this very forum run VPN's because they tell us they do.
As for companies running any sort of cloud service...................they are wide open to it unless they have all mitigations in place. Mitigations for those companies though are very very expensive to both put in place, but even more expensive in lost performance considering what they paid for each cpu in the first place.
