I haven’t gone with office 365 yet. In the past I have used office and apples versions. I wondering what the best free alternative, on windows based machine. It would just be genera use and for when my daughter starts doing a lot more homework in the future.

After you guys recommending it and a little bit of more research I downloaded libreoffice. So far everything seems to be fairy straight forward and happy so far. Cheers.
One caveat - LibreOffice defaults to saving in ODF (OpenDocument) Format. I tend if possible when sharing documents or spreadsheets with others to specify some ancient Microsoft format - this has never caused a problem . . . yet ;)

Libre office or just google ones if you dont mind google sharing your information with others haha.

I use googlesheets because it allows me to pull stock data in - excel can not do this as far as I know.
