I'm with VM for internet and the SH3 has terrible WiFi, so I put it into Modem Mode and fitted a new Nighthawk router. Everything is fine, WiFi now through the house and all devices connected an on the internet.

The issue is I'm trying to download a couple of things via qBitTorrent, and they will simply not download and the traffic remains at 0%. Any ideas as to why?

Cheers.

Did it ever work with the virgin hub or is this a new problem with the Nighthawk? Make sure upnp is enabled, failing that you might have to forward the ports to your PC manually.

Worked fine with VM. Ended up re-installing Windows and now it;s working fine(ish). The speed is a bit erratic, but overall net spped to PC is even faster than before. Very strange.

Looks like it's going to be returned. Does not support UPNP or DNLA now. Used to but has been removed by netgear to allow them to provide security names armour. Was not enough space on the ROM for both.

UPnP really should be turned off anyway and DLNA requires UPnP so that makes sense. If you insist on doing risky behaviours online then make sure you have backups, don’t use online banking etc.

Disable UPnP and manually open ports as required. Ideally, you want to using a VPN service and then port forwarding via that.
And obviously it's worth a Google around BT connections and adjusting them accordingly - no one stop setup here, just play around increasing/decreasing the connections.

You can roll the firmware back but it is a pretty crappy push from Netgear - remove a load of features, which no doubt attracted customers, to try and force users into paying for security protection

A risky behaviour online is anything where you expose yourself to malware where UPnP can be used to intercept your data. That could be torrenting, it could be clicking on a link on an insecure website, it could be viewing pornography on line. Anywhere there is a risk that the website could be controlled by nefarious characters they can make good use of UPnP if they can get the right malware onto your machine.

It’s your call. Set up a manual port forward or give hackers the opportunity to do it for you. And them.

The device does not have UPnP anyway. Torrent use is limited for a few specific things, just wondered why it would not work. I'm about 90% sure I'm sending the router back and getting a different one, as I'm not finding much of a difference WiFi wise. The router is placed in my dining room and if I go outside to the rear of the garden ()around 15 mtrs) the WiFi is non existent, yet I can pick up my neighbours WiFi which is further away.

Still not sure on it. Did the port forward and all is fine there. Just really disappointed in the WiFi signal. Gonna play around more at weekend and if I cant get it improved it's going back.
