my current desktop / gaming pc is getting a little long in the the tooth and I'm trying to decide whether it's worth upgrading or just replacing.
Ideally looking to make quite a large leap in performance as I've started to get back into flight sims (DCS mainly) and would like something to run it on a good level.
currently spec is :
Summary
CPU
Intel Core i7 3770K @ 3.50GHz 45 °C
Ivy Bridge 22nm Technology
RAM
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. Z77P-D3 (Intel Core i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz) 32 °C
Graphics
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (ASUStek Computer Inc) 35 °C
Storage
1863GB Seagate ST2000DM001-9YN164 (SATA ) 36 °C
111GB INTEL SSDSC2BW120A (SATA (SSD))

Initially I thought gpu (2070?) and memory to 32gb and maybe another ssd... But it's been a long time since I looked at hardware.....

Replace. My 3770S system failed last year - either the CPU or the motherboard - and I replaced it with an 8700 system. Today I'd go Ryzen, but I'm not sure how multithreaded DCS is. The 2070S is a solid choice for a GPU, especially if you're running ultra-wide or 4k

Hmm but budget being a factor would it not make sense to upgrade mem gpu etc and then when the mobo cpu die upgrade those then?
Sorry i missed the bit about flight slims while keeping my eyes on the cricket.

Don't know much about them, are they cpu/gpu/ram hogs or all three?

I would presume it's all three but it may depend on the sim? I mean you will need a new gpu so starting with that won't harm I guess.

9600k and run to 5ghz or move if you can! normally it would be 9700k for gaming as would last longer but if most flight sims still CPU bound and only 2 cores. Although I think XPlane can use 4 cores well currently.

Microsoft's new flight sim looks incredible !

GPU will def need need an increase. users with X-Plane able to max out 11GB of VRAM with modules and settings =/
