In game socialising?

Does everyone do it? I feel lonely in games and almost can't communicate.

I play most games at the sofa, but you can't really communicate with other players without mouse/kb?

I don't want all my sound going through headphones too I prefer speakers.

What do players use to "socialise"?

Just LOL if you don't type GG easy at the end of every round to trigger an in-game conversation.

Most people use apps outside of the game to communicate, discord being the main one.

On Quake I had keys bound to responses. I might try and find my old config file.

GG, N1, FFS, WTF, BOT!, /changename (when I wanted to play with anonymity outside of clan wars).

We used Teamspeak on league matches though.

I don't socialise much in games now, other than swearing over the mic at Diddums, and it's been a while since I did that.

I think that it depends upon the game.
Most of the fast past FPS games I see my son playing, tend not to benefit that much. Usually turns into an excuse to **** each other off.
However, some games work much better with cooperative communication, eg. Squad, Arma, and in my case DCS. I very much use comms with my flight members in DCS.

Always have a better time when playing with others you know on comms. To the extent I rarely play any MP game without being on comms with someone.

It usually depends on how I feel but usually use Discord if playing with friends anyway.

It's just a voice chat application (also has text chat and has added video capabilities) that is mostly used by people playing games, similar applications that you may or may not have come across in the past are TeamSpeak, Mumble and Ventrilo.

Um no. But then again, I haven't played multiplayer since Destiny 1 on PS4 or before that, Battlefield Bad Company 2 on Xbox 360!

TeamSpeak used to be the one of the main go-to voice applications for people who played MMO games like Eve Online where you'd need a way to communicate with a large group of players over voice to manage war strategies and other large scale activities.

I think the majority of people have switched over to Discord nowadays though.

I find that most people use apps outside of games for their socialising, Discord is one of the more popular options (it can be used on PC or on mobile and is one of the easier ones to get setup and started with).

If you're not too comfortable communicating with voice when playing online, it's usually good to start off with chatting with just one person whilst playing something like a co-op game so you get a bit more comfortable before diving into talking to a whole group of strangers.

COD I just use my mic to communicate... through the power of voice

If people speak / ask a question i'll respond. If not or I don't speak their language then i'll stay quiet.

That said, i've had a few games with foreign people where neither of us understood each other but you get by as long as you tag enemy positions, drop armour/cash whatever if they need it.

Had one really good game where me and a mate teamed up with 2 middle eastern guys in Quad Battle Royale. Initially we thought it wouldnt be much fun and each duo would set off on their own mission... Wrong, we all stuck together, bought a team loadout and ended up coming about 8th (Battle Royale) By the end of the game we were having a laugh even though it got intense because of getting sniped and RPGd from roof tops and needing to constantly revive each other to all stay alive. Suprising how much a 15-20 minute can bring people together who probably would never do so in 'real life'

On the downside, sometimes there are some absolute nobbers but it's usually a laugh if you give what you take

Discord primarily when I'm on with my mates or the racing team. If i'm on for some casual online fun on my own I dont tend to interact unless I see something idiotic happening, in which case I make them FULLY aware of my displeasure.

Use discord when i play CSS, COD or BF3. At least this way u can communicate with each other.

If im on solo on any games, then i don't bother at all.

Apex Legends ping system is pretty good. Not exactly TOP BANTZ but at least you can communicate with people, and you have the quip wheel etc...

Discord or teamspeak is probably the best bet. Im pretty sure teamspeak has a mobile app too

yea I used to be in a group that roamed from game to game for around 5-8 years probably.

I'd imagine it's harder to make friends these days since most games don't have voice chat and people aren't used to typing in chat for games anymore it seems.


also people are way more juvenile in behaviour even the adults, 15-20 years ago it was mostly people with a lot in common and less idiots ruining everything
