So I saw that Acer are releasing a new monitor soon, the XB323U. It's a 170Hz IPS 1440P monitor, at 32 inches. I'm not interested in this panel specifically, but given that the size and resolution give the exact same PPI as 24" at 1080P and 48" at 4K, do you think it would be sharp enough for you? Obviously distance to screen plays a huge part, and yes, 27" 1440P will be noticeably sharper. But if more panels were released at this resolution and size, would you be interested, or reject them out of hand? Just curious, especially if you've used that combo before!

As long as your eyes are ok it will be fine. I have a 32" 1440p and can barely notice the difference to my old 27" text wise apart from size obviously. The 32" is a fair upgrade size wise and far more immersive in games. I do not regret the decision one bit and i use the monitor for a fair bit outside of games and get along with the ppi just fine.

Nice one, thanks. That's what I was hoping - a huge upswing in immersion at little cost to sharpness.

I'll find out myself the end of this month.

What monitor are you going for? Keep us posted!

Although am close to cancelling, the shipping date from Dell is the end of the month. Secondly the order has been stuck on received for days, you have to wait the an order number to be assigned, they taking the ****? Worst company ever, another one to go on my blacklist I think.

Had a 32'' 1440p & loved it. Perfect size imo and the PPI is more than good, I don't know I'd really want a higher res at 32'' as you quickly run into diminishing returns both in terms of visual improvement & sky-rocketing GPU requirements. And for high refresh rate too? Forget about it, 1440p is high enough. Honestly my issue with monitors now are more on the contrast side. After using a VA FALD TV for so long now it's rough going back. And it's not just the contrast ratio but also all the other processing magic that some TVs know how to do (got a Sony), in particular as it relates to colour banding and just gradation in general. You get used to what you get used to, mind you, so it's not necessarily going to be a problem for you, but I'd be more worried about those sorts of things more so than PPI.

This is where I am. 27" or 32/34".

I think I will be disappointed moving from 23" to 27". Got the tape measure out earlier and it's really not a big jump.

I think for me the 27" PPI might be too much.

Need a next-tier up GPU to drive it and it's barely any bigger in dimensions!!

Otherwise that LG 27GL850 might have been the perfect monitor. I just think 27" will probably underwhelm me. If I'm spending £500+ I want a real feel-good factor to the upgrade :p

Don’t think I could ever go back to a smaller screen. I have been using a 1440p 32” Benq BL3200PT for a years now. I had been mulling over replacing with a 4K model or 144hz.

in the end I went with a 144mhz monitor. My LG 32GK850F arrived this week. Loving gaming on 144hz.

It's terrible.

24in = 1080p
27in = 1440p
32in = 4K
34in Ultrawide = 3440x1440p

That's it, anything other than those combinations shouldn't exist

Why is that tho? 32" 1440p is the same DPI as 24" 1080p.

I'm not disagreeing, as I haven't seen for myself, but I'm wondering why you say this.

I've been running a HP Omen 32 VA 1440p for the past 3 years and never had an issue regarding DPI and clarity. I previously ran two old Dell 23 IPS 1080p and if anything thought the clarity was better on the 32.

The biggest issue I had at the change over was the increase in vertical screen space. I had to place the monitor further back than I was previously used to, and also getting used to moving my eyes and head up and down a lot more (previously it was more side to side movements with 2 screens)

i use 2x 32" 1440p screens side-by side...the dpi is absolutely fine. if you're happy with 24" 1080p dpi - it's the same...
not quite sure what the naysayers saying "it's terrible" are blabbering on about.
this is why 32 gb ram is good...lol
CSL with 570k pop and ffxiv run side-by-side :D

I tried a 32" screen and it was just too big for me in shooters so swapped for 27" 1440p. I guess I found it hard to get the full view and my eyes had to wander too much to catch players coming into view from the fr left/right and my eyes would hurt after a while. It just wasn't for me.

Yeah, 32" for me is great, GTA V was pretty sweet on it. Wouldn't have a problem recommending it, think I prefer it to 27", thought I would notice the pixels more and cannot say I did.

******* catalyst played up with it though.

Seems that MSI have a similarly specced monitor to the Acer I mentioned in the OP, the PS321QR. It was known about in January, but info is still scarce. I'm guessing it uses the same panel as the Acer. Any other upcoming 1440P/32" monitors we should be aware of? I am now convinced this is the right size and resolution combo for me!
