Just woke up to the news of these laptops. The specs for laptops this thin seem super impressive. The 17" XPS has an option of a RTX 2060, i9-10885H and upto 64GB 2933Mhz Ram, cooled by this vapour chamber solution, meant to be 30% better at cooling than others (apparently).

I've just seen the new XPS 15 on the UK Dell site and the prices seem really expensive, if you want the best spec, which includes a 1650 TI CPU, it will cost you £2,200....Dell always used to price their laptops well, this is disappointing from a pricing standpoint.

17" Spec:
Display 17-inch 4K UHD+; InfinityEdge touch; HDR400 + Dolby Vision, 500 nits; 94% DCI-P3; anti-reflective
17-inch FHD+; InfinityEdge; Dolby Vision, 500 nits; 100% sRGB minimum; anti-glare
Processor Up to 10th Gen Intel Core i9-10885H
Graphics Up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060, 6GB, GDDR6
Memory Up to 64GB DDR4 2933MHz
Storage 256GB PCIe 3 x4 SSD
512GB PCIe 3 x4 SSD
1TB PCIe 3 x4 SSD
2TB PCIe 3 x4 SSD

What you guys think?

I went for the 15 inch version in the end, I rarely game on my laptop anymore and would prefer the smaller form factor. There is some tax benefit to me getting it now rather than later in the year as well. I have not gone for the 4K model as I use an old application for work that does not scale properly at very high resolutions, and I also don't need/want a glossy touch screen.

Should arrive in a couple of weeks so I'll come back and update then.

There was an engineering sample I saw on youtube and the RAM did not look soldered so I think yes.

Interesting that other people have had XPS machines fall apart, we have a 2015 XPS13 that I used for a couple of years, then my wife and now my 8 year old daughter carts it around and it's been rock solid.

I tend to switch every couple of years anyway and send the old ones down through my family so as long as I get that long out of one I'm OK.
