980ti + 4770 on 450w gold psu?

So, been offered a 980ti with a waterblock for my current build.

It's a 4770k, z87i board, 8gb of ram.

Only other thing I'll be running is a ddc pump, 4 fans and an ssd.

The psu is a Silverstone 450w gold, capable of 37a and 444w on the 12v+ rail.

Looking at reviews a lot of total system power consumptions with 4960x (130tdp iirc) and another 130 watt tdp processor ranged the total consumption from 300-350 total system consumption.

I ideally want to oc the 4770 but not crazily, but could run at stock as 1440p isn't so cpu dependant.

Thoughts?

Personally I'd say a 650w as a bare minimum , probably safer with a 700-750w.

Worst case however aside from instability the psu will just shut down if you overload it.

650w minimum i would say too.
I bought an EVGA Supernova 850 G2 (80 plus gold) around the time I got a 780Ti to run with my i7 4790k.
Never skimp on the psu as i have learned the hard way years ago. It blew a gpu costing me about £400
The Supernova is happily running a 2080Ti now but i expect the 980Ti uses about the same, if not more power.
EVGA 980Ti gpu requirements states ‘600 watt or greater power supply’ this is based on an i7 @ 3.2ghz. Same for 780Ti

I'm going to go against the grain and suggest you'll be absolutely fine if you don't plan to OC (much :p). As you've said, there are reviews out there that show it hitting 390w, however that's from the wall, so you're after taking the inefficiency of the PSU in to account it's going to be 350 or lower actual system draw. Obviously with a 980ti and 4770k you will be wanting to OC, I'd just keep your overclocks in check and keep power in mind while doing so, although that might be difficult with 980ti, they are typically insane overclockers. I'd suck it and see :p

Worst case scenario it'll shut down, as said above.

I'd fully ignore the manufacturer recommended PSU minimum, they're doing a worst case scenario ass covering exercise by making guesstimates based on the most awful, no name, grey box PSUs imaginable.

if you don't overclock it should be ok, why don't you measure the current or wattage at the plug during use to begin with I think you can buy pretty cheaply the inline meters now

you'll be fine I've run a 980ti & a 4770k with a crappy 480w psu still going strong after 7 years ;)
Haha overclocked?

Based on the above, I think I'm going to go for it and I think I'll have some headroom, the cpus in the reviews are way more hungry than my 4770k too, as above I think the 650 recommendations are for potato psus

I ran 4790k+980ti on a 650 and it ran just fine. I now have a 2070 super and it's still just fine.

It should be fine. I run a threadripper, Vega 56, gtx780, a mountain of add in cards & storage + a D5 pump off a 750W seasonic prime. It’s fine, even with the overclocks.

I'd just buy something decent now if it's older than 5 years - around 750w gold and use it on your next build as well. 80% of max should be fine even on an older psu though. Wouldn't chance anything more like 400+ unless it was fairly new. Most efficient at around 40-60% load.

Overclock the cpu and gpu with the 450watt... Both will turn may turn into potatoes
