I had two, about 800g each.

First one I reverse seared on the BBQ, which was about 40 minutes low heat indirect cooking till it reached about 60 degrees inside, then a couple of minutes direct heat searing the sides. Was cooked nicely, medium rare, the actual meat parts were excellent however as mentioned there was just too much fat in it.

After the first one with the second one I couldnt be arsed so I chopped it up stir fried it for fajitas, again quite fatty but the fajitas were epic.

Wont be buying them again. :)

Fair enough, sounds good! I'm familiar with the tilt shift look, but wasn't aware there were lenses for it.

Focus plane is normally fixed parallel to the sensor.

The tilt allows the focus plane to tilt at an angle, you can rotate it so the tilt now can be at 360. Then you can focus back and forth to adjust at which point the object you want in focus is along that focal plane now tilted.

Shift is like moving the camera sideways up or down or at an angle parallel to what you are focusing on.

The entire contraption is common on large format cameras where they have that skeleton frame. SLR do this with TSE lenses. There are only 4 on Canon, a 17, 24, 45 and 90mm.

Meat, like anything comes in good, bad and ugly.

I've had rib eyes that have made me angry and others that have been epic.

I wouldn't write off getting another, just get it from somewhere else.

I love a nice fat content, but there is a line. Fat is flavour, but it does get a point where it's too fatty. Nice marbling > too much fat.

Indeed and you get good and bad animals. I was brought up on a beef farm and my parents used to do a deal with the local butcher and he would butcher a bullock and keep half and my parents would get half for the freezer. Normally it would be fantastic quality meat but every now and then you got a terrible animal and everything was a as tough as old boots. The sad thing is you knew this from the first meat you had and then you knew you had a full chest freezer of it to eat before you got any decent beef again

Where was that out of interest?

I ordered a 800g tomahawk from an online place recently and was pretty impressed.

Got them here. https://www.tomhixson.co.uk/tomahawk-1570.html They have gone back up to £40 each now.

Perhaps just a couple of unlucky cuts. :) They were supposed to be about 1kg as well, they were both well under at around 800g. Got a £10 refund for that.

Not had much joy with meat lately, got a £30 brisket joint from another place and it had a massive streak of fat running through the entire middle of the joint. Complained about that and got a refund so ordered 2 x T-Bones. :p

np. TSE lenses are very cool, specialised and expensive. With digital photography the need for them have reduce somewhat but there are times you just want to do it in camera (always better), and there are times you can’t fake it in PS.

But they are all manual lenses, actually since they are only on the EF mount, with people upgrading to Mirrorless it can be a good time to get them since they work perfectly fine on mirrorless as you don’t need Auto focus. People buy them for reducing/removing converging verticals, I bought one for their artistic effect. One effect is you can take a photo in front of the mirror without yourself to be in it, by standing to the side of it and shift sideways into it.

Ah ok

I got a load of stuff from here: https://directmeats-foodstore.co.uk/

Very pleased with it generally. Slow cooked half of the 3kg ribs the other day, and for home cooked I was happy with them. Wagyu burgers were nice, as was the tomahawk.

Might try those next time, looks ok. I do have 2kg of beef short ribs to bbq saturday. Bonus is my son has decided to try being vegetarian so more for me. :D

The ninja one is very expensive however everyone that has seen it has been wow'd by it's build quality and it's functions. it's also an air fryer, can dehydrate meat for jerky, etc. make yogurt.

Basically with the air fryer function it can crisp things itself so after the ribs are done there would be no need to transfer to a grill or oven or BBQ you can do it all inside the ninja foodi.

thanks for the tips I'll give it a shot. just placed an order with Farmison & Co

Just spotted this in a search - how was the Farmison & Co order?

some of there stuff is very good like the burgers. unfortunately i didn't get the hot dogs they ran out by the time my order was picked.

their chicken is very overpriced IMO. in fact i'm beginning to go off so called premium high quality chicken as it's so tasteless. i'd rather just get marinaded chicken from my local place which is breasts for £5 per kg. perfect for BBQ. whereas the prices on there are £15 per kg iirc. it's good stuff but so is my local place. they also do marinaded chicken wings in my local as well as other meats so i can't go wrong.

i've yet to try the mince - 2 packets frozen, diced lamb and beef both frozen too. i also have a rack of ribs yet to try and some koftas all frozen.

the weather has been shocking up here and when it has been good i've had a lot on.

i'd maybe order the burgers again and get some lamb and mince at the same time and the hot dogs. forget everything else as too much hassle and i can get it locally for cheaper and still high quality.

also all their pre-made stuff is kinda crap especially the stir fry kits.

Received a nice little income tax relief from the US to help boost the economy after Covid, so I upgraded my earbuds.

Thinking about getting the headphones too, but I'll play with these for a bit first.
