That is the horrific extension of this law. A player gets fouled and ref plays advantage. However the foul causes the player to fall and the ball grazes his arm...the goal scored under the 'advantage' is chalked off.

Cannot for the life of me understand why the foul wasn’t given, surely as there was no advantage then you pull the play back.

VAR has actually ruined football as that goal should’ve stood because the Blades player kicked the ball against him after he was fouled and falling.

Edit Why didn’t VAR advise of a mistake by the ref there, he clearly looked at the Son and then forearm smacked him

The new handball rule is daft, they really need to change it at the end of the season. Nobody in their right mind would actually think that was a handball, plus the only reason he handled it at all is because he was fouled by the SHU player. Crazy.

Lovely Sheffield goal though.

If var can now analyse situations so closely can they not have a broader interpretation of the rules at least to balance it out, what is the sport coming to.

The problem is that decisions like this will be what is used to criticise the system and rules, but this wasn’t the intention when they planned the rule system. It’s the kind of decision that with common sense from the ref the goal would have been given with the justification that it was unintentional by a fouled player and everyone would have moved on.

Redknapps an idiot.

How can you apply common sense in each decision? People have different levels of common sense. All we would be doing is putting the blame back on refs when the decisions become insconsistent again.

Good point.

Hopefully this leads to some form of response next season. I can’t even remember how long we’ve had var now I understand teething issues but this shouldn’t drag on, I thought the ref could overrule anyway.

Watching these unfold in stadium is even worse.

Ref's really should be viewing big decisions on a pitch side monitor with VAR team doing the same in the studio. Unless it's an obvious one for VAR to deal with then ref can just rely on their decision. That .... and change this silly handball rule.

If he would have gone pitchside....he would have disallowed it.

Ref played advantage like it or not.
However Norwood was a very very very lucky boy to still be on the pitch.

Head says we will screw it up, hopefully I'm wrong and we keep our great record.
