Why is OCUK the best forum on the web?

Has this been done before? A quick search showed up a post from 2007 so I thought I'd start a new one for some light hearted discussion and criticism of other web crap.

I have been, and still am, a member of many online forums. This one, still to this day, is superior than all of them put together.

The software and layout, so simple yet so effective. Why do other forums have such shoddy layouts, tools, navigation? How can such a simple thing to do (as demonstrated here) be done so wrong on other sites?

Then we have the degree of moderation, which other forums again get so wrong but here just works perfectly. We can express our opinions to a pretty extensive degree and we can undertake a significant degree of insults and criticism and laughing at each other's expense without it getting out of hand (at least, not very often). I don't think anyone here really takes much offense at what anyone else says, which is great!

Then there is the level of activity - by far the most active forum on the web. How often have I posted on specialist forums in the past for no response to be received in days or even weeks. Here you can pretty much guarantee a response on any topic within minutes.

Whatever trick they have discovered here to make this work so well and consistently over the past 10+ years, don't change a thing!

Held at arms lenght this forum is absolutely brilliant. There are some total idiots on here, which I love :D

I see two forum members arguing over something completely pointless, both digging themselves into giant holes and I'm sat here sometimes crying with laughter

The best thing is those people who believe everything you say, even if what you say is so stupid most people would think it's a joke

Well, look at the joining dates of the people who have already replied to this thread - speaks volumes!

For me, it has a bit of everything. This place is a fountain of knowledge and I appreciate the efforts of the moderating team to keep it all ticking over.

For me?

It's because I've grown up with it and the reason I've stayed is because it's always felt relevant to what's going on. I don't even have to ask questions in the techie parts any more, a quick search and it'll already have been asked and answered. The place just feels like an organised..family?

High numbers of nerds.

Also this^^

Additionally, this place is easy to read (bar a few posters) due to the enforced rules on text speak. Some places are a nightmare to read/follow.

This is the only forum I am active on, intact it's the only one I'm on at all nowadays. I log in every day, love watching the same three people argue over things, constantly going round in circles.

Mainly though, I've stayed here because of the people. The moderators work hard to keep everything working nicely, and there is a certain degree of solidarity.

Don't know if it's the best on the internet, but its certainly the best for me personally.

Have been here since 98 or 99. Don't post too often, but it's the only forum I still read daily.

Learnt everything I know about desktop pc's from here, which has led to a long and successful career in IT. For that alone I feel a special affinity with the place.

It doesn't really get much better than that, and I'm sure there's hundreds of others who have seen doors open based on the foundations folk on here provide.

Pistonheads forum is probably closest I've found in terms of breadth of topics and types of posters

Pistonheads is fine, but multi-quoting is a PITA on there, plus I’m not into cars.
I thought that Digital Spy was good, and covered a plethora of subjects, and I’d probably still contribute to DS if I hadn’t been kicked into touch for using an apparently unacceptable word, (not a curse word), to describe travelling folk one day.
The only drawback I find on Overclockers is a personal one, there are times when I feel that a lot of posters could be MENSA members, while I’m only good enough to maybe reach £16,000 or £32,000 on “Who wants to be a Millionaire?”
I get a similar feeling on the French forum that I subscribe to, but conversely, with the U.S. forum that I’m registered with, I sometimes feel like a Mastermind winner, among a bunch of down home bubbas.

Good dosage of sarcasm as somebody said. Some real knowledgeable people on here regarding history and economics also.

It's also pretty much politically neutral, I'm pretty sure I got that right.

I do use Reddit quite a bit for quick answers also.
