Can you ban scalpers like this. . ?

OcUK can hardly ban scalpers when they're scalpers themselves. The Members Market is held to higher standards than the actual shop. :p

Um, er, I am not sure they are. Although I can't say for sure, my guess is that the suppliers have increased prices. I can't see Overclockers scalping.

Just one example: have you seen the 5950X pricing here and elsewhere? It may cause you to revise some of your opinions.

This sounds quite fun! I might make a few fake ebay accounts just to add stupid bids in.

The order confirmation that ebay seller has put up doesn't even confirm that he's been allocated an order? Just that he's placed an order.

Even if the price was reasonable, i'm not sure i'd be bidding on something that the seller might not even get for some time.

Just found a 6800 XT with 78 bids, going for £61,700. Glorious stuff, i wonder if the scalper knows they are getting played.

Probably not!

I imagine they've got big ££ signs in their eyes, and are salivating at the thought of all that money.

no down side as far as i can see, takes money from those who have too much and redistributes it to those with less... all good, its not like its medicine or anything anyone needs

Where did it come from?

A forum member managed to get a pre-order of a 6800XT from Overclockers, then proceeded to instantly list it on e-bay - he foolishly forgot to blank his name out from his order confirmation which he posted alongside the ad! He realised he'd been caught out, then edited a post saying this;

Why wouldn’t a company that sells PC components want to maximise their profits?

No-one is holding a gun to anyone’s head forcing them to buy their products.
That's a different conversation, I was replying to a post that suggested a specific shop wouldn't engage in scalper-like practices.

However, there are reasons to avoid that kind of profiteering. It's a trade off between money now (maximising sale price) and money later (customer goodwill). This simple point is well understood by most retailers- the actual maximal price achievable is found on eBay, not OCUK.

In fairness what he's done is perfectly legal and doesn't go against OcUK or eBay terms of service.

You could argue that he bought it, so its his and he has the right to do whatever he sees fit.

It isn't "sporting" no, but thats about it. I wish I'd done it myself to be honest. Easy money. Maybe next time. ;)
