Celeron pre-built
Celeron "gaming" laptop (obsolete after 6 months)
Atom netbook

Dual-core Athlon (DDR2)
Quad-core Athlon II (DDR3)
Hexa-core Zen+ (DDR4)

Probably sticking to this upgrade pattern forever apart from my first few noobish picks.

I might get this a little mixed up as i've had my current CPU about 8 years but it looks something like this -

Intel Pentium 4 1.7GHz (Wilamette Core)
AMD Athlon XP2500+ (Barton Core overclocked at a stable 2525MHz)

There was then an Intel Core 2 Duo and an Athlon X2 3800+ in there but I can't remember which order they were in.

Last & current CPU is an i5 3570k clocked at 4.5GHz.

I'm currently holding off on purchasing either an i5 or a Ryzen 5.

My first PC was a 286 16mhz machine back in 1992. it had 1Mb ram and a 40Mb hard drive... Those were the days playing all those shareware games on floppy disc, and PC speaker sounds :D

Between then and now there have been so many upgrades, and parts that its all just a blur. Current processor is a 5900x, prior to that a 6700k.

Too many to list now but like others, dx2 66. Iirc it had 5 1/4 like the 386 but one was swapped out for a mahoosive 20mb hdd. Cutting edge back then! Spent many hours playing gunship, space quest 2 and elite.

Then pentium came along and absolutely obliterated it. Remember a pal had a p90, the tower was huge! Think that was the start of playing wing commander. Loved it!

These old 5.25" hard drives are very interesting. They are rated at 5 Mbit/s transfers, which means 0.625 MB/s - for example the Seagate ST 225 20 MB 5.25.
This would mean that the HDD was able to transfer its whole capacity in just 32 seconds!!!

In modern times, it would translate to a 1 TB drive being able to transfer its contents at 31.25 GB/s read speed.

Am I doing the calculations correct?

Only 4 CPUs over 13+ years

This is even more than enough. Your most recent upgrade was 100% performance improvement.

The guy above you has more like sidegrades with pretty small performance improvements.

For a comparison - mine:

The last, of course.

Mine:

Pentium 233 MHz
Pentium II 450 MHz
Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego (recently upgraded to Athlon 64 4400+ X2 Toledo)
Core 2 Quad Q9450
Core 2 Duo T5250 upgraded later to Core 2 Duo T6600
Ryzen 5 2500U
Ryzen 9 5900X

Desktop:
Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego - 2006
Core 2 Quad Q9450 - 2008
Ryzen 9 5900X - 2021

3 for 14 years
