Horrid. I woke up on a Sunday. Had an early night the night before too. Went down stairs to make a cup of tea for us, got back in bed and the room then just started spinning violently. Had it for 3 days solid with vommiting etc.

Had an ambulance come out, which in hindsight was a waste of resource, but at the time I genuinely thought this could be death. A grown man with wife and child around me, I phoned my mum and dad and my mum raced down (collecting a speeding ticket on the way). It really was an experience you never want to go through again.

Tinnitus came a week later. Apparently doesn't come for everyone and 90% of people fully recover from it.

I'm getting there, but not quite. It doesn't thankfully impact my life any more like it did do.

Don't feel bad for calling an ambulance, I did when I had it, or at least the NHS helpline got one for me, or at least a medic on a bike as they were all booked up. Can have similar symptoms to a stroke so they don't mess around. Got me some medication and slept off the worst of it just staying at home.

Labyrinthitis is no joke, Doctors who have had it describe it as one of the most extreme non life threatening things you can get in terms of symptoms. I couldn't walk or barely even move for vomiting, couldn't sleep on my left side for months afterwards for being dizzy. Luckily made a full recovery after a few months with no tinnitus after effects.

Over the past year I’ve noticed I have tinnitus and struggling to hear people talking and find myself having to concentrate. Done one of those apps and it says moderate hearing loss so will book in for a test after lockdown.

what I am finding weird though is I’m finding loud noise really annoying, like I have two toddlers and when they get loud it’s like really really bloody annoying it’s hard to describe cos it’s not like a pain in my ears it just seems off. Is that something other people have experienced? You’d think with possibly losing some hearing the loud noises would bother me less.

Has anybody tried CBD oil? I've read that it can help, but I'd be interested to see what others say. As somebody who has never used cannabis before, this is an unknown.

Both myself and my brother have tried CBD oil. I tried from two different sources. I had read user reviews, if they have value, and neither were cheap.
My brother spent a lot more than me on where he bought his from.
Both of us shared the opinion that OTC legally sold CBD oil is akin to snake oil.
I did not take it with tinnitus in mind but for that of help with chronic pain.
Neither the pain nor the tinnitus improved tiddly squat.

Very much a waste of money.

I think the best fix for tinnitus is simply acceptance. Once you accept it, you will hardly notice it. Now i know that this is far far easier said than done. But i had / have very bad tinnitus. To the point that i was very very distraught. I even flew over from the US to Ireland to spend thousands and buy Leniere, which didn't help. And yes it still annoys me when i think about it. And yes its always there. But keeping my mind busy, staying off anything like tinnitustalk and i can go for hours on end without even realizing it. Look at it this way. Do you think about the traffic you hear outside? or if you're on holiday somewhere, the constant sound of cicadas ? No because your mind doesn't perceive it as a threat, and without realizing it you just start ignoring it as background noise. Now you can't tell me the noise of cicadas isn't as intrusive as tinnitus ? The same can be said about tinnitus. Its an annoying noise, that we just want gone, and cos you can't get rid of it, it sends you down a dark path. But once you accept that hey this is here to stay, and just get on with it, before you know it you'll stop realizing its there and minutes turns into hours, and eventually hours turns into days. Some days it so loud that there's F.ALL you can do, other than force yourself to keep busy.. That's the days you make sure you're keeping yourself occupied. Hands on.. Like do the gardening, or clean the house / car. We've all got chores to do in our life. That's my medicine.. Keep my mind off it. and it'll retreat into the background.

In total agreement.

My tinnitus is extremely loud. If i thought about it a lot it would drive me crazy!

This is what my Ménière’s is like everyday for the past four years. It’s ruining my life. People don’t understand how bad vertigo can be until they’ve experienced it. It’s torture.

@thedoc46 i know what you mean, on bad days my t is well audible over the tv but i can still have long periods of time where i don’t think about it. I used to read tinnitus talk its so depressing and it really dragged me down and made me focus on the t. I think i read it daily for a year so until i finally realised that the misery specialists on there must have more than t going on. I only go there for the research section now.

Absolutely, nothing worked for me until a doctor basically told me to live with it. I accepted it and now I hardly notice it. There are days where its VERY loud, but those are fewer than the days I never think about it.

I've been suffering from Ménière’s for about 24 years now and it's been horrendous, apart from a couple of months respite after ops/steroid injections. You're right, no one knows what you are going through unless they experience it themselves. There's not a day goes by when I'm not feeling the effects of it and tinnitus is one of them. Not sure how I do it but I just crack on and try to keep myself occupied. Tinnitus is worse for me at bedtime when it's all quiet, at least during the day you can surround yourself with noise :)

Hey buddy I'm really sorry you're going through that disease, it was my biggest fear that I also had Ménière’s, but luckily for me I did make a full recovery. However, even doing things like a barrel roll in 1st person view in a flight sim can scare into thinking it could come back. Even if most don't understand, I do at least understand what you're going through.

Ménière’s/vertigo is so bad physically that it becomes mentally stressful as well, so I really feel for what you're going through, all I can offer is that I did make a full recovery from being extremely debilitated by my vertigo, and many high profile people have had successful operations to fix Ménière’s.

Alan Shepard in particular, the 1st American in space had bad Ménière’s later on, yet still somehow managed to walk on the moon at 46 years of age after years of Ménière’s. Only someone who has had the disease or vertigo can know just how badass he was to do that. An incredibly risky and brave thing to do, almost foolhardy that NASA let him do it, but the point is he fully recovered to achieve the greatest heights even as a man getting on in years.

Also Dana White UFC President fully recovered from his Ménière’s, now flies all over the World, seem to have made a full recovery.

I really hope there's a treatment option for you too and that you can make a full recovery as well. You can always post in this topic for support. Best of luck to you.

Does anyone have days where their tinnitus is barely there, like a 1-2/10 and other days like a 4-6/10 and its just irritating. I have been working on my bed time routine lately, by choosing 10 minute meditation session on Calm(phone app) and then reading for 30 ish mins. I have noticed if i go to bed with stuff on my mind the next day the tinnitus is worse..

I looked back on this thread where I first posted about it nearly ten years ago. I still have it now. It's actually quite bad again now for me and I think it's down to probably needing my ears either syringed or cleaned out professionally (yes that is a thing with micro suction and specialist tools). I tried using that Otex stuff which is like a mild pyroxide to help dissolve the wax. Realised it says not to use if you get tinitus! But then I think that's probably a generic protectional thing they put in. I tried that and Olive ear oil drops, then I bought a syringe (designed for ears which spreads the streams sideways) to try to gently pump out some wax. Can't get anything out so I think I'm going to give up and book an appointment with an ENT.
I also find it often is worse in the cold. Does anyone else find that?

Yeah, it's when I realise that there is an absence of noise I then understand that is how it is meant to be.
Covid seems to have made my tinnitus worse and more consistent, I'm hopeful that it will settle down.

Yes. Generally it's louder if I'm stressed, tired, or ill. If I can hear it intruding on day to day life, i.e. I can hear it over the Tele, then I'll take it easy, get more sleep, check my heart rate (if I'm getting ill my resting heart normally increases before I get any other symptoms), and take care of myself untill it quietens back down.

Can relate to all of that. Although even on a good day I can still hear my tinnitus slightly with the tv on, unless its a loud action scene or something.
