Hello all :)

My son has the java version of Minecraft and he would like me to play multiplayer with him. With java now finished, I was wondering which version I should buy? I know we need to have the same version for multiplayer, just don't want to waste money on the java version if it will be pointless.

Thank you :)

Stick with Java, just buy it from the website, rather than the microsoft store

That's great, thank you for the link :)

no worries, me and my SO play it still, we move through modpacks to keep things new / interesting :)

https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/modpacks

It'll come with it's own installer so setting up is SUPER easy and if you want your son to have something to play along to, I'd recommend using the direwolf20 1.16 pack and following this youtuber:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8Ue9I-SKeM

It's his pack and he goes through setting the various mod things up in a no nonsense manner (he's in his 40s so VERY palatable for an older viwer). Then once you've done that to death, try other modpacks as you'll know how each of the main mods work :)

Nice! That's really good. Some of the mods get tricky to get working, so that is really helpful. Thank you :)

No worries man, the only theing you'l lwant to do is give mince craft more ram.

Theres two steps to this:

1. Go HERE and get java 64, it'll allow morte than 4G of ram (and you'll need it).
2. In curse, at the bottom left click the settings icon, then under game specif click micraft, scroll all the way to the bottom and give yourself at least 8G

That'll massively help with lag etc.

If you have a homeserver, these modpacks can be ran there headlessly and you point minecraft to the IP of that server. No account is needed for that - which is what I do to take the load off my main pc
