Looking at building a gaming PC for my son which will also double as his school work pc. Not 100% sure on gaming spec but 1080 maybe 1440 if budget let’s me.
I have already purchased the following but a little stuck on the rest.
Ryzen 5 3600 £145
Samsung 980 Nvme M.2 500gb £45
Corsair RM650i PSU £85
I have a MSI B450m mortarmax motherboard but unsure to keep this and go for full size ATX.
Rest of the budget is around £600 maybe more depending on GPU cost.
I know I’ll need 2x8gb ddr4 ram but unsure on case as he would like it looking good with RGB.
We are going to purchase a monitor for him with a budget of around £250-£300.
Any help would be appreciated.

The mortar max is a very good board and pairs well with a R5 3600.

3600mhz is the sweet spot for ram.

check out the Lian li Lancool 2 mesh case as not only it looks great but performs really well and has good build quality.

The problem is going to be finding a GPU. Most things are out of stock everywhere and prices are insane.
A browse through the Overclockers shop shows only a 1050Ti at £230, a 2060 at £400 and a 5700XT at £500 in stock (unless I’ve missed something). The 5700XT and 2060 are both decent cards but the price is bonkers. Chances of finding 30xx Nvidia or 6xxx AMD cards are very small.

Thanks for the advice.
Managed to pick up the following now
Ryzen 5 3600
Samsung 980 Nvme M.2 500gb
Corsair RM650i PSU
Corsair Ballistix DDR4 3600 RGB
Corsiar icue pro SP120 rgb fan kit
Crucial MX500 1tb SSD
Fractual Design Meshify 2 case
View sonic xg270 monitor 2ng hand less than a year old.

Still really stuck for GPU. Have a 1650 coming but I know 8 over paid so going to return it £220.

Really after a GPU and looking for advice with a budget of around £400. Have been signed up for alerts of various sites but missing out all the time or not preferred to pay £800 for a RX6700.

The lack of gpu,s is a good reason to go intel with built in graphics shame no ond pointed you in that direction.

The 10400 would have been a good shout at the time of your original post.

Good luck with the gpu search.

Might be a stupid question but seriously don’t know.
With the parts I have got can I just build this and what for a GPU, do I have to buy any additional cables as the case hasn’t arrived yet and don’t know if it comes with them?

Yes You can put it together and wait for a gpu but obviously it wont work until you get one.
