I'm returning the vivobook due to inability to add data drive.

I will do some gaming like supreme commander and forged alliance.

I have 10% lenevo code and through work I get high street pc retailer and the other high street catalogue.

I'd like ryzen 7 octo core
At least 8gb ram
512gb nvme
Ideally ability to fit 2.5" HDD
Backlit keys
Good screen
15" or 17"

Max £1000

The Legion 5 with the 3060 would be a good shout. Or the Legion 5 with the 3070 is £1,300 which will come in at £1,170 if you can stretch to that. It comes with a slightly higher refresh, brighter screen than the 3060 model. Or the 3060 model can be had with the 165 Hz screen for £1,200 before discounts.

What about 82B5000CUK
That's under £800

I'm just not sure whether to splash out or just get one that is good enough I do gaming but not much and I've got gaming desktop granted its older with xeon ATI rx470 , I don't have much time for games anyway.

However the slightly better spec of the 82B5000CUK means it has dedicated graphics lots more usb ports, I presume ability to add ram or another sad , rj45 port etc
Compared to the vivobook m514 which tbh was impressive..octo core Ryzen 8gb, Vega, ips.

Just would be nice having steam installed to play Borderlands etc I presume vivobook won't be as good compared to legion

Personally to play any games comfortably on a laptop I would try and stretch for a GTX 1660ti minimum, you can probably find some 2060 with intel CPU around your price range which will also give much better experience even if the CPU isn't as efficient as Ryzen 4000/5000 series.
If you can stretch for a RTX 3060 then personally the laptop can probably replace your desktop in terms of gaming needs.
In fact there is a Lenovo Legion 5 with Ryzen 5 5600H + RTX 3060 for just £999.97 if you look hard enough.
