What a pain. Once you get a scar you don't worry so much so that is good I guess!

Worth having some board putty in your kit if you go on longer tours. Very quickly repairs any dings

Yeah, the benefit of buying second hand i guess is that i'm not overly devastated with it. Mainly the awkwardness of doing repairs.

Have found 2 people who are only ~1hr away from me. Neither have a large enough workshop to work on a 14' board, but both suggested they could do it outside. One mentioned routing out the fin box and so i questioned whether this was just a case of using a router to cut it out and he said yeah.

So i got that done myself on Sunday, means that the foam around it has plenty time to dry out as that was one of the more time consuming parts of the repair. I'm hoping that by doing it myself, any repairs can easily be done in a single day given that epoxy cures in a few hours (have to use slow curing stuff as otherwise the heat can cause issues)

Having removed the old fin box, i am looking at it thinking it seems very do-able to just fit a new one myself. The original wasn't glassed over, just a case of being epoxied into place. As long as i'm filling the hole with epoxy and wiping away any extra residue it seems pretty straight forward. Similar for the scratch.

On the other hand i'm thinking that ~£70 to a professional makes sense to do it properly, if it's a days repair then hopefully i could help/watch and that would give me knowledge to tackle anything in the future without guesswork.

Have found a board for Spain too, after looking around for a few weeks i've found someone not too far away from my parents place selling a 12x30 Naish Glide Touring GS for 450euros so ~£400.

Seems the perfect size for that i want, should be really stable. No paddle either which gives me freedom to pick up whatever i want.

So last year I got a Itiwit Kayak and loved it. Fancy trying some paddle boarding this summer. Not sure where to start though. Don't particularly have a budget £300-600+ I guess. I'm about 5ft 8 and 70KGs. I will just be hoping to glide along the river for a few miles. Maybe get one for my son too. What sort of lengths/dimensions and any recommendations gratefully received.

I've heard good things about aqua planet boards. I got the girlfriend a Gladiator board which comes with a 3 year warranty.

I've got a fanatic pure air which I love.

Speaking of which, went on the river run today for the first time with a friend. We dropped one car off and drove the other car to our start point.

2hrs later and a few rapids we got back to the other car. Slightly crispy now!!

For the river and gliding given your size, i'd say something in the 12'6x30" range would be a great size. It won't turn as nicely as a shorter board but if you're going straight down a river and then back again that doesn't matter too much. Something like these would be ideal. Stock is probably the biggest issue for you at the moment sadly.

https://supinflatables.co.uk/fanatic-ray-air-touring-12-6-inflatable-sup-paddle-board-2021.html - A little cheaper, but wider so a bit more stable if you'd like that.

https://supinflatables.co.uk/gladiator-pro-12-6-inflatable-paddle-board-2021.html - A little heavier but probably stiffer due to the single skin, also comes with a better pump.

My Spanish board has been delivered by the owner, turns out he has around 5 boards so is trimming down. Possibly the most shocking thing for my parents was that he was Spanish and yet turned up on time!

I finally used mine!
Went in the sea in Aberystwyth which was hard work. Going to book a lesson with sup north to get some targeted tuition and go from there.

Hi guys,

New to this sub forum as I've just been out for my first paddleboad ride(?) at the weekend. Wasn't planned at all, met someone at the beach with one and got a wee try and now falling for it very quickly!

Got myself a wetsuit yesterday and a loan of my bro-in-laws SUP while he's working away (cheap board from a shop so won't be going to mad with it) until I can get my own later in the season. Looking an an Aquaplanet Rokit as that is what I had a ride on and looked into it a wee bit and they seem quite a decent company with good reviews.

Options for getting out are quite plentiful where I live, so quite excited to get out there, Isle of Lewis and Harris for anyone wanting to check it out.

Anyone got any links to YouTube videos? (love a bit of cinematic vlogs etc)

Check out SupBoarder, they do equipment reviews but also vlogs around touring and stuff.

Yeah, the guy delivered the board. He has around 5 other boards so was trimming the fleet. He knew a few people my parents know who's son races too so it's a small world.

Not fixed mine yet, have got a guy who can do it, just need to find a time to drop it off with him.

Good stuff, that's a great board for holidays.

Hope it went well and the weather was nicer than it is down here. Thunder storms and rain.

warm rain as my Nan would call it.

Was ace! Got standing on the board and felt fairly comfortable (although feet were burning at the beginning).

Mentioned I can coach and they are keen to get my down for canoeing and kayak as well. Successful evening!

Good stuff. Feet burning prob just means you were a bit tense. That will go in a session or two.

My Naish has arrived. Haven't had a look yet but excited about it.

I'm looking at getting an inflatable SUP. I've rented one a couple of times and am reasonably confident, BUT I'm planning to take my nipper out on it too. So I want it to be fairly wide to be stable with him on it, but not so big that it feels like a barge when I'm alone (which will be more common). Will likely be used ~80% of the time in canals/harbours, with just the odd excursion to the sea.

I'm 6'2" and ~76kg. Nipper is only 4, but obviously is growing up!

Any suggestions on the sort of size I should be looking at?

Any stable board with good volume would be OK for taking the little one out with you. Re your own use do you think you will want to go long distances or fast? Or more pottering about and having a laugh?

I think it's more likely I'd be doing longer distances than going fast, but I think it makes sense to go for more of an all rounder. Then after a year or so maybe I could switch to something more specialist depending on what it is I enjoy more.

When you say 'good volume' what sort of size would you recommend? 10ft seems to be the most common, but I can see 11 and even 12ft options available, or is thickness/width more important?

I’m 115kg and have a Gladiator Light 10’8 board. Mine is a 34 inches wide by 6 inches deep but, mainly cause I’m heavy.

I suspect my board is properly slow compared to some in here with narrow and longer touring boards. But, mine is to get the hang of it before I get a full on touring board
