Intel locks down all remaining TSMC 3nm

According to a news report from DigiTimes, TSMC’s 3nm process is on track for volume production in the second half of 2022, further extending the foundry’s lead over rivals Samsung and Intel. However, contradicting previous rumors, the report suggests Apple will be the only client of the cutting-edge process next year. The Cupertino company will leverage the technology in its Bionic A16 SoCs for the next (to next) generation of iPhones and later on in its Mac PCs.

Is a good move from Intel. Not only do they get to sell products with the very best manufacturing processess but they also limit their direct rivals having access to them at the same time.

If they are going to use those wafers for their gpus then they must think they will be semi competitive . Lets hope they are and we have a 3 way fight in the gpu market.

3 way triopoly you mean. They won't out do each other for custom, people will still buy their overpriced cards. Shareholders matter, you don't.

Great news for intel. Will production begin in time for intel's new gpu production or even Alder lake CPUs? Either way, should improve availability of products in the future. Good move.

Looks like 3nm could be the strategy for second gen Intel ARC graphics cards. It would be a very clear sign of intent from the Intel graphics wing. Flood the market with reasonably prices discrete cards throughout 2022 and have a node advantage over Radeon and Nvidia in 2023.

Great news for Intel. They already out supply (and thus out sell) AMD by a monstrous magnitude. With their buying of TSMC wafers, of varying processes (including the 3nm mentioned), it'll further increase it's overall lead in supply and thus sales.

Bad news for AMD.
