I'm thinking I might like to dip back into a bit of gaming this autumn and winter, given the current ridiculous state of the market what is the best VFM 1080p 60fps option new or used?

3060 ti founders edition if you can get one but i dont believe in all this 1080 / 1440 / 4k GPU nonsense, it depends on too many factors to band them like that

Well budget isn't fixed, it's more about VFM. I think the FE 3060ti is pushing the VFM limit even at RRP so I'm probably looking more at the used market.

Best used buy is whatever is cheap, if this is for recent games I'd be looking at minimum a 1070, 1660, vega 56 or 5600 xt (<£200). For older games something like a rx 470/570 or 1060 (<£100). If you pay too much it's pointless, might as well get a new 3060/6600 with a warranty.

For newer games, the 3060ti FE is best value. Even the 6600xt is more expensive and slower, whilst it is supposed to have a cheaper MRSP. If you want to play older games a 970 from the second hand shop with 2 year warranty will get you up and running. You can trade it back to them towards a newer card before it goes out of warranty if you want

I took delivery of a sapphire Pulse RX6600xt yesterday, though I haven't installed it yet due to a guy coming over today to check out my rx6800. As far as I could see, the 6600xt was the only real choice for me personally as I only play old games (COH: opposing fronts, COD games, Homeworld remastered, even C&C generals, etc).
The second hand market is shocking atm, with the 2060 'frinstance going for £400, 2070's for £500, and 5700xt for £500 and up, so the choice is really a no brainer here, the 3060 is still more expensive than the 6600xt and with lower performance and the 3060ti is far more expensive though faster. The performance of the 6600xt "should" suffice for me though considering the games I play (CP 2077, watch dogs legion, etc hold no interest for me at all btw).
So, for £400 I get 5700xt performance (ish) 2yr warranty, I know the cards history, etc, whereas I couldn't get anything approaching that if I went second hand.

1080 is a really Good card and 250£ is somewhat okish price.
No warranty tho.

1080ti's have been going for ~£350 on the MM to which you have access. That seems like decent value to me.

Yes I'd been keeping an eye on both, but they generally seem to be above those prices and that is a bit much for the gamble IMO. The other thing holding me back is a lot of them are big AIB versions with huge 2.5/3 slot coolers and I need a standard width 2 slot cooler.

I had a GTX1080FE until recently in a SFF system, and for a blower cooler it works quite well. AFAIK,they seem to go for less than the AIB models too.
